hey RM_Indy i dident know if i relly wanted to poast this or not cuz i dident wanna bring up this argument or not, but i notice in your pic you dont have tailgates on your trucks now i was thinking youd be able to do a good test to see what it did for preformance (not mileage) with and whthout it because your timed right to the .001 of a sec duz it make any diffrence on your time? have you ever tested this?

Currently, she has gained a fair bit of wt. Not exactly sure, (track scales have been broken for 3yrs now ughh) but estimated it at 4000lbs even for my 12.91 pass

Ryan and Ron

As far as the stock weight, my Indy tipped the scales (when they worked) at 4455lbs back in 96. Lowest the scales showed before they died was 3860lbs
Low race weight before the supercharger I estimate at 3800lbs even(or less) stripped down (no passenger seat/no tailgate/tonneau)
Ive removed a few parts here n there that were not neccessary over the years. Part selection is usually base on best performance, but also low wt., alum heads a good example.

With the blower, I added a fair bit of weight back in with, drive shaft hoop, gauges, pods, fmu, ignition box, the s/c & intercooler plus put the stereo back in w/cd changer.
I have only run with the tailgate on so far with the blower. When you use weight reduction to increase speed/ets you have to be carefull, too much wt off the back end hurts ets in cold weather, truck struggles to hook. Ive got stuck at traffic lights on inclines when it started to rain in the past when NA. Seldom let it get caught out in the rain becuase of that. Last time a few years ago, 4 tries to get away from a light, could barely stop the back end from going sideways 5-6'.

My weight reduction page is a bit dated but may give you some ideas of what to remove. Wt reduction can help city mileage as well as ets.

hmm removing the tailgate for weight reduction i never thought of that. i suspose thats why your racing and im not lol. i was wondering if it helped/hindered your drag (slower et = more drag?) i see you removed the anttena as well as the wipers (have you thought about removing the mirrors? or havng ones that fold in?) but i suspose this woundent be the best way of finding out ither since it duz weigh alot. i wonder if maby you took something light (maby plywood??) inplace of the tailghte to see. the reason im curreous is some pepole say the tailgate helps by creating a vortex behind the cab whereas some say it causes drag because it catches the air that comes over the cab

The tailgate on a shortbox I dont think will affect the drag coeff like a long box will. As far as the mirrors, thats why I have SS mirrors now, they weigh 1/2 as much as the stock power 6x9s and cause less drag. PS. tailgate weighs in about 65lbs approx.

RmIndy, thanks for the weight report....i figured they're in the mid 4k range stock ; sure feels that way with the 318 [sm=sigh.gif]

How does yours 60ft ? You running drag radials or slicks ? Just curious....

Ron

Ps. I don't know if you follow the Hotrod Magazine "Pump Gas Drags" at all but there's an interesting entry this year that you might be interested in. The guy has an older Ram D100 that has run high 9's NA and he's upgrading the combo for mid 9's. He runs the beast on MT drag radials DOT tire and says they hook great. Should be interesting to see how he does.

Funny thing, my fastest 60' was with a stock motor from tb down (full exh/every bolt on/13.99) With mild top end mods & beefier rear end & legal exhaust (no gutted h/f now) it slowed down on the 60 (14.08best) and struggled to get back under 2.0. With the s/c on ran a best 1.93 (day it ran 12.91) not pushing the stall at all(2300launch/2800stall). Expecting 1.7-.8s with the 408 @8psi but I really need a better stall convertor. Software says thats one of the weakest parts of my combo. Need to bump it up to 3800rpms.

What brand of converter are you running now ? Personally, i like Dynamic....got the 9.5in (4500 stall) for my Charger. Nice and tight for the street....excellent unit. I'm wondering if you're not driving through it (the converter) which is not uncommon for big tq applications....have you calculated for converter slip ? Generally speaking, boosted vehicles don't need a lot of stall because they make so much torque. This is of course for Roots type SC's....i'm aware that the centrifugals come on a little later.....which might not be a bad thing for a traction limited application.

A friend runs a 671 roots style blower on his 68 Coronet and liked the 3500 stall over the 4500 that was in there previously. The combo has since been upgraded (ported Bulldog heads and Comp custom roller grind) so he's thinking about trying the 4500 stall again. Cool car that's been minitubbed, ladder barred and caged. I'll try and load a pic. He'll be there on Mopar day, june 3rd.

I'm sure those trucks are a bear to hook up....definately a major chore. Are you running any ballast in the back ?

Ron
