Default Exhaust melting mud flaps (w/ photo)

I bought these cheap flaps with the Dodge logo on them and I got what I paid for. The exhaust side is bubbling and falling apart and it's only been 1 month[&:]. Is my exhaust really hot for some reason or is this normal? I'll post a pic later it's ugly as sin. What a waste of money.[>:]

My guess would be that as you're driving, the wind and spray coming off the tires pushes the mudflap back until it is closer to the exhaust than when you're standing still. I don't think the tailpipe puts out enough heat (you can put your hand over it while the engine is running without getting hurt) to do that damage from so far away.

Perhaps you could find some way to keep the flaps from, er, flapping.

I agree with Matt. You can tell from the picture that the mud flap is being pushed up when you're driving. I don't know if they make any that small, but on my other truck (a lot bigger) I put these wire brackets on my flaps to keep them from kicking up and even getting stuck between the duals when I am backing up.

I took off the flaps today. The bubbling has almost gone through the flap [&:]. Matt & 28this you guys are right the wind combined with slush pushes it too far back and the exhaust tip roasts it. Glad it's winter here, all the melting occured in minimum -10C weather (14F). I can only imagine what may have transpired had it been summer. I'm just gunna forget about flaps until I go dual [sm=lildevil.gif].

What if you put a chrome tip on the tail pipe that isa little curved and aimed it away from the mudflap. Just a thought.
