Steve, Thanks for the tip. Breather is good.

Here are some pics after 215 miles. I thought I took one of the stuff in the filter before I dumped it,but apparently did not save it correctly. Sooo- the first is a pic of the clean bowl for future reference, and the second is the sht I dumped out into a 1 pint water bottle. It filled the filter bowl up about half way.

My motor did not ping once the whole trip.

There was not an oem filter on my truck, just a vacuum line going from the pcv valve to the intake. So basically over 215 miles that crap would have been dumped into the intake. I believe this is what was causing the pinging. With that amount over 215 miles, eventually it has to severely hasten build-up in the cylinders. I got the filter at Lowes for ~$23.00. My Fastman TB shipped yesterday, so I'm going to clean the inside wall of the intake while I'm putting that on, then run 3 Techron treatments through to clean up the top end, and the filter will, hopefully, keep it that way.

So were you able to tell exactly what that crap that came out of the filter was? water, oil, gas, a mixture?? That is very interesting......

oh my bad mopower... i thought that was the contents of your aux fuel filter you dumped out... i see now that thats the stuff that came out of the filter between the pcv and the kegger ... damn thats still nasty! doing something to mine this weekend..not sure what though... dunno if i wanna do what you did and just inline filter it ... or do i want to get rid of the pcv and run a breather like the opposite side.

Ok, I read this a couple of times and it hasnt sunk in yet... where exactly is this filter/water trap located? between the pcv & intake?

It looks to me like you have condensation buildup in your motor... water & oil & air, or you have a slight headgasket leak.

How does your oil look?
what about the coolant?

how was your gas milage over that 200 miles?

edit: pop off your valve covers & have a look... if it looks like that crap you have in the jar, you've got a problem somewhere. this was my head when I took the valve cover off... (for reference)

The filter is in the line between the filter and the intake. All fluids look good. No scum at the top of the radiator or bubbles in the oil and the oil has good viscosity. The bottle smells a bit like gasoline. I wonder if it could be a combination of oil, oil vapor, and condensated blow by gases. I think I am going to move the filter. As yall well know, the pcv valve is on the drivers side, and I ran the vacuum line all the way over to the passenger side for serviceability. I am thinking that alot of this stuff would not normally be allowed to condensate, and fly right through the intake into the cylinders.

I am going to pull the valve covers this weekend, and give her a look see.

Are the holes in the valve covers for the breather grommet and the pcv grommet the same size, and if so would it hurt anything to swap them. i.e. put the pcv on the passenger side, and breather on the drivers?

yea i think they are the same size... dont see why that would hurt..just need a longer breather tube to reach the drivers side air inlet tube on the keg... just make sure the motor and oil are warm (like right after shut down) .. b/c when they are cold that plastic material that the breather 90deg angle fitting on the pass side and the pvc fitting on the drviers side gets really brittle when cold and have a tendancy to crack into a million little peices when pulling them out..... dont ask how i know [sm=violent053.gif]plastic stuff

I made the same 215 mile trip last night. Here is a picture that shows the layers seperation of whatever the hell it is that is coming through my pcv valve. I did some research on putting a breather in place of the pcv, and read alot of stuff saying not to do it because there is alot of stuff that needs to be evacuated out of the motor. I surely believe that at this point. There is not as much stuff as last time. The in-line fuel filter that I originally put in was partially clogged when I checked it. So I believe that some of the stuff from last trip might have been in the vacuum line. Motor is running better and still has not pinged once- under load, part throttle, or wot.

Yes you are correct. NEVER REMOVE YOUR PCV VALVE. and NEVER put a filter in the same valve cover as the pcv valve. That would be
The same as removing it. You would only be clearing the gases from that one valve cover instead of the whole engine.
Every engine has blow-by, unburnt fuel, carbon and exhaust from combustion. If you don't have a pcv valve sucking this out
of your engine it will mix with your oil and you will either changing your oil every 1000 mi. Or wearing out your engine prematurely because of
contaminated oil.
