Default Hope my plenum gasket isnt shot....HELP

Ive never had a problem in the past two mustangs that I have had with oil consumption...well I changed the oil in my ram about 3k miles ago with semi synthetic stuff and checked it today and there wasnt a drop on the stick [:@] Truck doesnt leak oil at all either...great...had to put in 3 quarts to fill it back up...not sure what the deal is but tom. Im going to check to see if there is oil puddled up in the back of the intake. Truck goes into the exhaust shop first thing in the AM to get my magnaflow cat installed, then Ill check out the oil situation. Ill keep posted on what the deal is, but it just freaked me out to see it was that low. It doesnt smoke that I know of and there isnt any leaking around the engine at all. Its got 103,500 miles so I figure it will use a little, but not that much every 3,000....oh well, Ill drain the oil and see what I find tom.

I have the air cleaner off and looking down in the throttle body I do see what I think is some oil but its just a thin film. I held the flashlight and took a long skinny metal rod and scraped around the bottom of the intake and it didnt seem to be "puiddled" it just seemed to be a thin film

Its kinda hard to see,...when I noticed I was down about 3 quarts of oil in 3,000 miles I assumed this was the problem because it doenst leak

I guess Ill just change the oil for now and keep an eye on it and see what happens after 500, 1000 miles and such

try crawling under your truck and checking main seals, the front and the rear, my rear main is problomatic, this is the 2nd time its started to leak. Oil will be all over the tranny with the rear main, and over the front of the motor with the front

Now that you say that there is SOME oil between the manual bellhousing and my back of the block...that just might be the problem there...but it doesnt drip that i know of?

Ive noticed mine doesnt have a very noticeable leak, it seeps when its running and more than likely gets absorbed by the clutch (Great[:@])

I belive that yours is a two peice main seal, fairly simple to replace, just drop the oil pain, pull the oil pump, pull off the rear main cap and the seal is right there.

Biggest thing is to get the proper tool to install it, NAPA has it for 18 bucks I think. Without it, installation of the seal is a P.I.T.A!!! One thing I learned from my uncle is when you do it, permatex the ends of the rear main so it doesnt leak through there

If its a one piece rear main (I'm pretty sure that it isnt) you need to seperate the tranny from the block and replace it that way

My rear main was leaking and it never left a spot on the ground. I noticed the tranny and back of the motor was covered in oil. The 2 piece rear mains are easy to replace, do the oil pump while you have it out. Pavementsucks.com has a good article on how to replace it.

unplug pcv and while engine idles place finger on r/c pcv hole and feel for vacuum on finger, vacuum felt is bad, also you will notice idle rpm is higher
