Cumins in 1500
just wondering if it is possible to put a cummins in a 1500 .. i know it sounds stupid but i have a 1996 5.9 1500 4x4 and the motor is blown up and in my back field there a totaled 99 cumins with a perfectely good motor, and i was just wondering if it was possible to put the cummins in it and what i would have to change like springs and all that good stuff? i know its a far fetched idea but i have the stuff

Transmissions are VERY much different You'll definitely have to change the springs as well. The CTD is a monster of a motor. I'm also not positive, but I think you'd maybe have to do some wiring changes as well...going from a 99 to a 96.
It is a quite a bit of work, but it has been done before. There's a guy over at www.pavementsucks.com that did it. I've also seen them in old Ramchargers before. [8D]
Don't expect to be able to tow/haul what the 3/4 ton could though. And remember, the cost of diesel (right now anyway) is quite a bit higher than premium gasoline...let alone regular. You'd probably be better off parting out the CTD (probably could get almost 2k for the motor alone depending on mileage) and get a decent gasser to replace the one you blew up.
