skid plates
hey i got a question for any of yall who know much about fab work.
personally i dont fab stuff up on my own- i dont have any of the tools to do so. however some of my friends do, and we're thinking about making some skid plates for my truck. just wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what thickness to use when making them? and also if anyone already has skid plates on their Ram please post of up some pics, thanx!

unless the skid plate (from the factory) is part of the transfer case itself i dont think i have them. thats where i was planning on putting them. or maybe i just dont know what to look for exactly since its factory not aftermarket, maybe it looks a little different.
There should be a big flat plate (duh
) right under the t-case. Its actually bolted to the bars that hold the t-case. If its not there and you wanna make one I'd go with some 1/4"

yep 1/4 inch should do the trick and unless your planing on draging the bottem all the time mild steel is all you need. in some trucks/cars that have the air/hydrolic syspention to drop them to the ground, they sometimes have AR (abrasion resistant) steel skid plates so they can drop them when there driving and make a bunch of sparks out the back
dont worry socha, i know what a skid plate looks like. i was just thinkin maybe it had been shaped to fit exactly around the transfer case since it was from the factory.
ok sounds good thanx for the help yall ill use 1/4 inch

im making some for my truck out of 3/4 inch aluminum dimond plate.
( Not like $600 a sheet or anything.) haha it depends on what your using and how hard your going to be using it. im making one for the t-case and half the trans and another for the gas tank as theres alot of sharp rocks where i wheel. im also starting to make some diff guards.
