HUB HELP
I have a problem getting my right side (passenger) hub off. I am trying to replace the axle u-joint, had everything apart, everything came off fine, but the hub is frozen on. I rented a puller, 2 1/4 ton, and i broke it. Went back rented a 5 ton puller and tightened it as hard as i could and the hub did not budge, gave it some good wacks with a 5 pound sludge and everything and it still would not budge. I also used about a half bottle of pb blaster all over it. I was wondering if it was alright to use an impact gun at the end of the puller, of if anyone one ones a better way to get it off???
Thanks

I know of a few ways...
1.) WD-40 and a rubber mallet/deadblow hammer
2.) Gear puller <- That's what I used when I did my U-joints. Had no issues getting it off. The surfaces on mine weren't rusted though.
3.) The hub bolt trick: http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/d...threadid=62927
But if you've already tried a puller, then I'm not sure what to recommend [&:]

theres an easier cheaper way. get a deep well socket that fits the 3 bolts that hold it on(14 or 15MM 12 point I think). Do not use a shallow one because it will round the head of the bolts.
Back the bolts out about half way. Then hit the end of the bolt with the socket on there, work in a circular pattern until it is free. It is much easier to have the whole axle jacked up that way it is easier to get to all 3 bolts with a BFH by turning the steering wheel.

We did mine on sat night.
Thread a bolt or two a little into the back of the hub, and hit it with an impact hammer; that should seperate the rust. (worked for both sides of mine.... 210,000 miles of original northeast rust on there)

not trying to make fun at you or anything but you did take out all the bolts right you have a 1500 so there is 3 of them there on the back side of the hub they are 9/16 (14mm) 12 point

Yes i took off everything, including the 3 bolts in the back that hold on the hub, i did not have any junk bolts, so i did not really hit them that hard when i threaded them in.
