Which is better--Triton 5.4 vs Magnum 5.9

kinda off the topic between ford v/s dodge, but i had a question about the 5.2 & the 5.9. my brother just got a 98 ram with a 5.2. i drove it around the block and the truck seems to have better throttle response & pick up compared to my 99 5.9. both trucks are stock, and mine has @ least 20k miles less on the clock. is that common? or am i losing power somewhere?

btw, there is no production 300+ HP 5.7 Vortec, highest thatengine ever went was 255. 5.7's have gone over 300HP, but not with a Vortec name, only with LT or LS engines
and there is no 5.7L Fordunless you've got a stroker kit for a 5.4L
the only advantage that i have seen on the 54's is that they have a dual cam design. one over each head. The reason that I do not care much for ford v8's is that they had so much trouble on the 8's in the past. Poor oil line designs, they would sludge up the engine, and cause massive engine damage due to oil starvation. Also, let me tell you that you can put an exhaust on a 5.4, and it will not have anywhere near the lope that your engine does. Pushrod 8's rule.
Triton engines had a problem with bad heads where the spark plug threads weren't drilled deep enough and they were blowing a plug or two out of the engine.
time and again 5.9 without a doubt. better performance, better quality, EASIER to work on like you wouldnt believe. Try to change the plugs on a triton i dare you.
I love dodges, but I do think Ford outdid with the fast pickup. The svt lightning is a better fast truck than the srt-10. To me, it is much more impressive that ford uses that little 5.4L v8 and it gets all that horsepower. Dodge just slapped in their viper engine (8.1L v8) and even though it's alot of horsepower, it's pretty weak for an 8.1L v8!! Dodge also shot themselves in the foot for making them so damn expensive. Most people wouldnt dream spending $30,000+ on a ford truck that can't really be used as a truck, but dodge stooped to the next level and is asking in the $40,000+ range for their srt-10...just a tad bit out of line with that price....overall, lightning is much more powerful and faster for its size engine, that viper engine is a dud in the scheme of things..

Lol no that was my point, ppl dont want to spend $40,000+ dollars on a truck that they aren't even going to be using as one. So the least dodge should have done was market it like the svt in the $30,000 range. I'm sure it cost more though because they had those giant viper engines in them, and they wanted to make it up somewhere. It's just my opinion though that the lightning is a better fast truck than the srt-10,

the ford can't get it to the ground. I work with a guy that has an '05 ford lariat. Now that thing is supposed to be pushing 300 hp... and it may very well be.... I just don't know where it's hiding it at. That thing has 0 punch off the line. MY 10 year old 5.9 liter ate his lunch to the point that he was embarrased about it...
those things are junk... The vortec 5.3L is much more of a challenge

I will say though in regards to the 4.6L and 5.4L triton engine, that they may not be the quickest trucks off the line, but they are an incredibly complex engine. It's a very high tuned engine, and it produces a lot of power. My dad has the little triton engine in his long box extended cab truck, and my god, that thing is such a work box. It's never let us down, and it's taken the heaviest loads before. I remember one time we put 20 80lb. quikrete bags on the back of his truck. It looked ugly as hell, but it took it like a damn champ. Those engines are also lethal if you modify them. A simple cold air intake gives something like 15-17 h/p. Put a full exhaust and headers with a cold air intake, you can conveivably gain 65-70 h/p, it's nuts. I really like the engnies though, they run quite, and ****in' purr when your on it. They are reasonably good on gas, and they really look attractive. Ford did a good job making the engine bays look eye appealing with their triton engines. With all of this said though, the magnum is obviously a much stronger engine. Now that I own a 5.9L magnum, the power difference is hardly comparable. My truck would eat my dad's for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But like I said, I admire both engines, they both have their advantages and disadvatanges. The magnum is also a pig on gas.
