Issues installing ebay intake v6
so several months ago i bought an air intake kit off ebay. only $25USD. now ive gone to install it and it appears with the hardware provided there is no way to attatch it to the throttle body. unlike the stock unit, it doesnt clamp down around the throttle body, it screws through the top of the new unit and into the hole in the throttle body itself. the piece that screws into there is too tall and wont clear the bottom of the wiper cowl under the hood. basically im looking for some advice on how to get this securely fastened to my throttle body.
heres some pictures that might help.
also, on the old unit theres a picture showing a hole int he bottom of it that goes over a small hose in front of the throtte body, the new unit doesnt appear to have anything to accomidate it.

As a guess, is that a Pacesetter unit that you are installing? I put one on my 98 5.9 and had to fabricate a few things to get the intake tube to sit the way I wanted it. And yes, installation takes a bit of ingenuity, trial and error, and just plain figuring things out.
I had problems installing my Pacesetter. Cowl clearance was but one of the minor irritations. I did find that pulling the Rubber weatherstrip away from the cowl enabled me to move the wiring harness upwards. Gave me more clearance to play with.
The tiedown **** and the angled metal rod look identical to the ones that came with my Pacesetter, so I thought that may be what you had.
Other than what I described above, I don't have any more suggestions. Sorry.

Guess I should have taken a closer look at the pics before I posted. My bad. You're setup definately looks much more difficult than what I had to deal with on my 5.9L. The only suggestion I can come up with is to fabricate your own tie down from some stock rod, cut to a length that will fit under your cowling. Unfortunately, that is about all I can suggest.
Looks like someone would need to find the right amount of rod to cut off of the bottom and top to get the right height for fitment. The air box is too tall for a truck without a body lift. Judging by the photos, even if you get it to fit, the nut is virtually inaccessable and it looks like the can and nut will rattle against the firewall or rub on the wires. Find someone with a body lift and early Merry Christmas. Sorry but from the pics, that would be my suggetion. At least it wasn't expensive. If the can was shorter it would be a good design. It's even aluminum instead of plastic....
it looks like an older airaid box... that metal swooping intake.. ugh sorry but i have this really bad feeling that it's gonna rust on ya. wait.. it'll oxidize if it's aluminum..

im thinking of taking off the plastic wiper cowl and cutting a small hole out of the steel underneath just to gain access to the hardware i need.
I hate to say it but that think looks like it's going to get heat soaked big time. If it were me, I'd try to re-sell it on e-bay. That rod is called an s-hook and there's a general description of how to make one here:

just scroll down the left side to where it says- what is a s-hook and how do I make one. It looks like your offset will be different than the one pictured, but it will give you the general idea.
I still would bet you'd get cooler air from the stock air box with a K&N drop in.

The way that i did mine wuz installing the stud into da dat aluminum tube n then tryin 2 see thru the inside of the tube so i could hit the hole on top of the throttle body. I would try making the "s" shorter just cut a lil bit off. But maybe this will help u out.
