Default Transmission Clunk?

Does anyone elses transmission CLUNK when shifting in and out of reverse/drive?!? I just noticed this today... I'm hoping the tranny doesnt fail or else it looks like I'm gonna have to spend 2500 dollars on an APS bulletproof trans... *tear*

Oh crap, I didnt think of the U-joints, I'll check for play in the driveshaft... Checking right now, reporting back in 5 minutes LOL"

If so, I'm going with solid performance u joints...

Ok U-Joints are absolutely fine, they look rather new... However I found out something about the driveshaft... It was made by DANA and the P/n (theres two on the sticker on the driveshaft) is 921781-583 and 927486551 ... All Aluminum...

So yeah, anyone else?

i have that too.. theres a little freeplay in the driveshaft.. like a centimeter or so that you can twist it.. i think thats what makes that clunk noise going from reverse to drive

I cant twist the driveshaft at all, not even a MM . its solid, the u-joints are a-ok, however they are not greasable =/

Try shifting straight into Neutral first for a few seconds. In our trannys the tranny fluid doesnt circulate in park. So if you shift into neutral it will circulate the fluid and build pressure and shift nicer. But Most of the Dodge auto trannys that Ive been in do that. There is a solenoid/band that controls shift pressure, I cant remember which one.

The only bad thing about getting one of those bullet proof trannys is the warranty. If something is wrong with it you have to pay for the shipping back to the place then you'll be out of a truck for 3times as long as bringing it to a good tranny shop.

You could also have bad backlash setting on your differential.

Mine makes the clunk but I have a detroit locker so it takes almost a 1/4 turn before it locks.
