The 6.8L Triton is only rated at 310 horsepower and 425tq. And those are the specs for the 2000+ engines. Before that they were only putting out 275hp and 400tq [>:]

And the 6.8 is a SOHC motor...not a pushrod motor like the 8.0L magnum motor. They also run a higher compression (9.0 compared to the Magnum's 8.4).
Hmm..I dont know where I found it, but I thought the Ford put out over 360. I guess they are a lot more even.

And for the SOHC vs. Pushrod. There is a kid at my school, and he thinks he knows all about cars and stuff, and I was telling him about how we found a bunch of old engines (scrap metal hauling) and he told us to find the biggest one, and bore it out, and put overhead cams on it, and use that in something. I didn't say anything because I wasn't sure, but I dont think you can just "swap" in overhead cams...? Wouldn't it have to be either a SOHC/DOHC or pushrod block?

You are correct, don't listen to the kid at school. The only old school American V8 SOHC engines are the very rare 427 SOHC Ford NASCAR engines. Chrysler built two DOHC 426 Hemi engines but they never ran under their own power because NASCAR banned the SOHC 427 Ford and the pushrod 426 Hemi.

Horsepower is not everything....for low end (burning out, pulling, etc.) power, torque is the key. Lots of HP wont hurt either of course, but horses really dont take over till higher speeds
Well here you go. look at how low in the rpm range all that **** kicks in. I think they come with 3.23's and a manual

I think the motors in question in this thread are the HD truck motors It's true that the Viper V10 and Magnum V10 are based on the LA engine, but they don't share much more than a few bolts between the two of them [8D]

All magnum engines are based on the LA block, the only differences are:

LA engines - 5 Bolt valve cover, hydraulic flat tappet camshafts, standard tappet bores, shaft mounted rocker arms, rocker arms are oiled through the rocker shaft, 1.5:1 rocker arm ratio, standard intake manifold and mounting, standard rotation water pump, and v-belt fan belt

And Magnum - 10 bolt valve cover, hydraulic roller camshaft, taller tappet bores, stud-mounted rocker arms, rocker arms oiled through pushrods, 1.6:1 rocker arm ratio, vert intake manifold screws, Reverse rotation waterpump, and sepetine fan belt

Just thought i would share =)

Yeah I figured that's what yall meant, but the the ford hd doesn't turn 360hp. The lightning does. I just figured that's where he got confused and offered up the Srt link to compare apples to apples. Gets under my skin a little when anyone compares a ford to a DODGE.
