Default Power

Im looking for a truck with plenty of power. I drove an F350 with a V10 today and easily roasted 35's with stock gears. I want power like that, but Im not gonna buy a ford...so what can I expect from dodge. I know they have the 8.0 but that doesn't really have THAT much power for the size, and the 5.9. I want a standard tranny, and haven't been able to find one in any of the trucks ive looked at.

How easy would it be to upgrade the engine to put out that much power. I dont want to get INTO the engine, mostly just bolt ons and computer. What could I expect out of the 8.0 or the 5.9 with minor upgrading?

Excuse me? The 8.0 doesn't have that much power for it's size? Have you looked at the amount of torque that it puts out STOCK? That's what roasts tires The 8.0 V10 in the Ram puts out 455ft-lbs STOCK.

Add headers, PCM, intake...you're pushing 500...and that's before doing anything major to it.

You can dig into the engine...port the manis...port the heads...play with the compression...install a cam. It's a monster motor if it's built right. You can even add a blower kit for a 40% increase in hp and torque.

And just a little FYI, unloaded...a Ford V10 can hang with a Dodge V10. Put a load in the back of both trucks, and the Ram will walk away from the Ford

That truck was meant to haul. Stuff not ***. What are the stock gears? You can sit there and roast them all day in a Kenworth or Mack if you want.

Are you sure about that? A Dodge V10 or GM 8.1 are in another league compared to the Ford V10.

I could turn my 305s all day on dry pavement with my V-10, And turn around and hook up the camper and trailer and giver hell through the mountains.

Who said the V-10 doenst have any power? You can get it in a standard tranny as well.

I have a 96 V-10 with an auto, and my Dad has an 01 V-10 with the 5 spd.

I haul around a 8.9 foot Truck camper with an 18 foot boat with an inboard and the 2001 hauls a 28 foot 5th wheel trailer around with out any problems.

V-10 ALL THE WAY

What I meant by not much power for the size was the Dodge V10 is 8.0L and the Ford V10 is 6.8 and the Ford has 360 HP and the Dodge has 305 HP, and I thought they both had around 450 TQ. Granted the Ford is prolly at a higher RPM, but still, when I thought of an 8.0 V10 I was hoping for closer to 400 horse.

I really wish I could find a V10 Ram around here with a standard...but theres pretty much nothing here.

The 6.8L Triton is only rated at 310 horsepower and 425tq. And those are the specs for the 2000+ engines. Before that they were only putting out 275hp and 400tq [>:]

And the 6.8 is a SOHC motor...not a pushrod motor like the 8.0L magnum motor. They also run a higher compression (9.0 compared to the Magnum's 8.4).

HAHAHA wow i wish i coulda seen that one....as for the dodge V10 they are a torque monster for a gasser, my gas 5.9 can burn em and it comes no where close to the torque of the V10 dodge. Horsepower is not everything....for low end (burning out, pulling, etc.) power, torque is the key. Lots of HP wont hurt either of course, but horses really dont take over till higher speeds.
