i am looking for lower priced lockers...i dont have $700 for one air locker minus labor. i was thinking of going for an aussie locker up front for two reasons: only about $230 and because they claim it is very easy to install yourself.

unfortunately, they do not yet make one for the chrysler 9.25 rear. so for that i would turn to detroit locker...i am still looking into these, but it looks like i will need to have this one installed, which will add substantial cost. i'm guessing $250-300 for labor, maybe more. i also am looking for a site to get the parts the cheapest..again, i'm guessing around $300.

anyone know of a good site to get the detroit locker? any suggestions on a good locker setup? keep in mind, i want to stay around $700-$900 for the whole setup, the cheaper the better.

 

I have no idea where you're gonna find two lockers for $700-$900...at least not new ones...but if you find a place, be sure to let me know

I haven't heard of the aussie locker, but I have one question...is it manually engaged? (like an ARB/OX/Electrac) Because if it isn't, you don't want to run it up front

why couldnt/shouldnt you run airlocker for the D44?

didnt stock D44's come with open front diffs? even if it was a offroad model? i think my D44 is open.. but not sure

shott...aussie's are automatically engaging, like regular detroit's. over on pavementsucks they say you can run em up front...and why not? it will only be engaged when i'm in 4 wheel drive, which is only when i'm offroading (and when i want it on). they sell for $230, which is aweome, and another great aspect is that they are easily installed in a few hours (according to the website). really sucks that they don't make one for the rear of our trucks. and yes, both the front and rear are open on our trucks.

i didn't know the locker for the rear was going to be so much money....hell, maybe i'll just run a locker up front for now...couldn't hurt offroad.

I see the aussie isn't manually engaged.

Because of that, I'm not sure you would want to run it up front. Because of the fact that it's an auto-locker, it may (and probably would) try to turn your ring gear/prop shaft/front drive shaft while you're on the road trying to run in 2wd. Definitely not a good thing Just a thought. It's why an ARB/OX/ELECTRAC is a much better choice for a front locker.

 

from what i gathered on pavementsucks, it WILL turn the front drive shaft while driving. but then again, who cares? the passeneger side axle will still be disengaged, so there will be no binding or anything while turning. and having a few extra from components like the front driveshaft turning while driving won't hurt or wear out anything that much faster...look at full time 4wd vehicles, everything is always turning on those.

 

I know ALOT of people that use Aussie lockers and they've enver had any problems I've known off. Most of them have them up front too, and they're daily drivers and still no problems even on pavement always locked [&:] Its wierd

 

a locke rlike that will be fine on the road. the only time you'll have a hard time is in the snow in 4wd.
it will be fine in the front. they only engauge when power is given to the pinion, otherwise they will be unlocked

A detroit in the rear is the only way to go. they run flawless. and have excellent road manners

 

GOD RAM IT, can i ask you how much you paid for your detroit locker, and how much the labor to install cost?
