Default How To: Guzzle Gas & Burn Rubber ;-)

Today was the first day in almost 5 months that I was able to drive my truck...since it gets stored for the winter. Today was also the day that I host my annual "mod day" for the car club that I'm webmaster/VP for....the Wisconsin Grand Prix Owners club. You know what that means right? When you have a club full of FWD owners? You show them what RWD can do I'm sure the 10 cylinders had no influence on what happened [8D]

I'm not sure how long I spent smoking them, but when I let off...I did so because my trans has 144k on it, and I really don't want to put a new one in anytime soon. I could also smell quite a bit of burning rubber. [8D] And boy do those tires get slick when they're hot. I went about 1/4 mile after I did that and whipped a U....I almost ended up pointing the same direction when I started the turn

It was good fun. I definitely realized how badly I need ladder bars when doing this [>:]

Afterwards a herd of crotch rockets went through going quite FAST...and passing each other at speed. I thought I was nuts for doing what I did on the road...those guys were insane [:'(]

One more....

Nothing like leaving holes in the blacktop...and a steaming pile of rubber [8D]

So, I have to ask, why do you store the 3/4 ton v10 for the winter? Also whats your winter beater? I have to find a good road with no cop traffic to burn my old Wranglers. The new rims just got here and I am about to order my Nitto's and when they get here, after the lift goes on, new trackbar, and rear leafs rebuilt, right before I put on the new tires and rims, I want to burn off these old Wranglers. When I mean burn off, I want to smoke show till they pop! Then I am going to take the rear blown ones off and put the front ones on the rear. LOL, I want to pop all four, just for fun.

Man you GOTTA love that LSD! Isnt anything quite like leaving two solid black streaks! Judging on them marks them tires really do get really warm really quick!

Nice!!!!

I am curious though, how did u get your hands on a Mopar Performance PCM? I also have a 99 2500 V10, Currently Stock, but eyeballing the Gibson Headers & Cat Back Pipe.

Unfortutately I've run in to alot of "your truck is not a most popular model" [sm=dontgetit.gif] and keep hitting walls for Programmers and Mods.

I've Actually spoken to Hypertech and they mentioned they will add my name to a list and email me if they ever make a programmer for the V10 [>:]

Because I went through quite a bit to get this truck. I bought it from a dealer in Florida last January. I flew down and drove it back to WI in 1 day. It's in very good shape for being 12 years old and having 144k on the clock, and it only has rust on the frame, drive shaft (which I'll be painting this summer) and parts of the rear axle. That's it! A vehicle this old...here in WI...with little to no rust on...it's a sight you rarely see. Plus I have no use for it in the winter. Come to think of it, I don't have much use for it in the summer either...other than the occasional need to tow/haul...and of course driving it for pleasure [8D]

In the winter I drive a 1990 Grand Prix Coupe......I also drive it in the summer, since it gets almost 30mpg where as my truck only gets 14. I also have a 1999 Grand Prix Coupe that I drive in the summer.

I currently have a 79 Ramcharger for my plow/winter truck, but I blew the reverse band in it this year. It's so rusted out and the frame is so weak that it's not worth putting a new trans in...or rebuilding the current one. I'll probably replace it with a K5 blazer...or 2nd gen Ram short-box before the next plowing season.

EDIT: I bought the PCM for it off Ebay. I've actually purchased 2 of them off Ebay since I've owned the truck...one for a spare. They discontinued them a few years ago, so they're getting harder to find. Ebay is a good place to watch for one. You could also try checking with a dealer...to see if they can find one on their dealer network. The only downside to running the performance PCM is that you have to fill your tank with premium.

I know there is a programmer that will work with the V10s....it's a ROE programmer that was originally made for the Vipers....which used an engine management system that wasn't much different than the Iron V10. I believe a member on here...V10...has it. I'm not sure how well it works though. Maybe he'll share some info with us on it

There are plenty of other mods out there for the V10 as well! Headers are a good one! Gibson makes a great set! Cat-back isn't terribly necessary. The setup the V10 came from the factory with works quite well. If anything, the muffler would be all I'd change as it flows horribly. The fastman (www.thefastman.com) has a TB that really wakes up the motor. The K&N FIPK is also a must-have mod. This motor greatly benefits from porting & polishing the intake manifolds, as they were cast very poorly. Then of course there's cams. Mopar had a performance one for a while that woke the motor up quite a bit. I believe other cam makers (crower...comp...etc) have a similar cam. Or, if you don't want to spend the time & money having a cam put in, Crower makes a good set of rockers for the motor. Oh...and TRACTION LADDERS are a must!

Then of course there's always the blower kit..........[8D]

The VEC1 isn't actually a programmer, it just allows you to "alter" the MAP voltage to the PCM.
Since the MAP sensor is considered a component of both the fuel and ignition system, you can alter both the air/fuel ratio and timing advance up to 7 degrees
The VEC1 was made by Split Second http://www.splitsec.com/ you can still buy one along with the A/F meter but it is called the ARC1.

I like it, it's supposed to be good for 16-20 horsepower on the dyno and my highway mpg has increased (13.0 mpg @ 2100 rpm 65mph empty w/4.10's vs 12.0 mpg)

Now all I need is that Paxton NOVI 2000
