Need help cutting of light in dash
I have a 95 ram 2500 4x4 with the v-10 and my maint required dash light has come on and the local dodge place wants 75.00 to just clear the light off. Does anybody know how to cut this thing off?
Remove the bulb, put some black tape over it, see if AutoZone has the ability to reset it for free, or pay the $75 to have it reset...I believe the maint. required light stays in memory, so disconnecting the battery probably won't help...I've been a GM guy until recently, so maybe one of the hardcore Dodge guys has a trick for it.
And you're sure it's the maint. light, not the check engine light, right?

It's not the check engine light. This is the maintance required light--it is set to come on at certain milage and has nothing to do with the check engine light. I tried auto zone and advance auto. They can only do 96 and newer trucks.
Like I said, I think you're screwed into paying the $ to have it reset, other than removing or covering up the bulb...older Dodge's had a box under the dash with a pinhole to reset the light, but I don't know if your year still had one...I can check the Alldata at work tomorrow to see if there's a reset procedure if you'd like
There's no way to reset it without a DRB (or similar) tool. They removed the "pinhole" and switch resetting somewhere around 1989-1990.
The light is just a reminder to have your emissions system checked. $75 is kind of high though. Most dealers only charge $35-$40 to do this procedure. [>:]

Everytime a light came on in my jeep=== check eng, shiftlight, maint req, etc-- I just took out the bulbs.

Ok, not sure if this is like a Jeep, but under the steering column in a Jeep, which is made by Dodge there is a Small black box with a wiring harness with just a few wires on it. My be the box they are talking about with the pin hole in it. Just unplug it the light will go out and never come on again. Does not affect driving or anything else. They cant reset these they actually change the box and that is what makes the light go away. It is seperate from any other boxs in the car, Like I said that works on a Jeep, dont know about your truck, worth a try, and its free.
