Default Hopefully getting Exhaust Soon/Help with Shopping

Hi, Im saving up for the FIPK right now but after I am getting my exhaust done. There are various things I don't like about the exhaust systems offered. I was wondering if I went into an auto shop with a muffler and tip the shop could make me a system that exits where i want it with mandrel bent tubing. The systems on the market either don't come with the muffler I want, do not exit where I want, or I don't like the muffler. An example would be, I like a lot of the Gibson systems but hate their mufflers. Would a place like Midas be able to offer mandrel bent tubing? Am i just better off trying to find parts seperatly or buying a system and selling the muffler and getting the one I want. How pricey would this be? I hope this is enough info for now.

Depends on where you live. Muddy was right on. Midas will do it, but it will cost you. When I bought my high flow cat, I took it to a maa & pop exhaust shop who welded it in there right and cheap.

before you pay ANYBODY to do it, ask around to try to find a friend or a friends friend who can weld, it would be well worth it. for example i just happend to mention to a friend that i wanna get my exhaust done soon, and it turns out he might be about to buy a welder (he already knows how, just needs equipment)

that would save you some money

Midas will be VERY pricey, is my prediction. they charged me 175 dollars to replace the pipe AFTER my muffler (only.... after.... the.... muffler!!!!) and to hang it. i realize now i got ripped off, at the time i had no clue

Like I said... You are dead on right about Midas. They are a conglomerate who have pencil pushers to determine what prices to charge where. If you are in say, rural NC along the SC border where there isn't much competition, you might pay as much as 150-175% as if you were in a large metropolitan area.

you may not realize Charlotte is only about 25-30 minutes from the border....... theres plenty of competition here. im gonna drive around and try to find someone to do it cheap at a locally owned shop though.

Okay thanks, I am more concerned with how i will get the exhaust how i want it. Should I just buy some piping and see if someone can mandrel bend it, and then maybe have the person or place welding weld the hangers on? What are some other options? Thanks

Screw MIDAS. They're gonna try and screw you first. They wanted $860 to do my BRAKES! I did it myself (even replaced a worn cylinder) for $36(p.s. I'm no super-mechanical genius). Go to a local shop. Don't worry about buying the piping yourself, but there is a HUGE price difference in stainless versus aluminized. Where you can save money may be buying a muffler on ebay for cheaper (check the guy's trustworthiness rating).

I'm getting my exhaust put on Thursday at a local speed shop. I talked to the guy about performance, backpressures, setups and he seemed knowledgeable. I knew the kit I wanted (magnaflow catback with dual split rear exit) and he found it for a decent price. But i bartered him down cause Souther Hotrod (here on DF) offered me a better price(hint hint, talk to them about prices). So he dropped the cost and offered a good price on install. Plus, it helps if you have a group buy going. Find a friend who wants an exhaust done too or intake.

Good luck and enjoy.
