Too much...I really have no idea, think it's about $7-$9 a quart tho...at work, we use regular DexIII/Mercon fluid with either Everwear or Lube Guard additive...3 or 4 years we've been using these additives and have not had a trans complaint yet. Did a trans flush when I first got my truck, it took care of a 1-2 shift 'slip' and that was 2 months ago.

Do you work for a dealership or an independant shop?

Just found the ATF+4 at a local Kragen. THe tranny kit came with two of the gaskets, is one just an extra?

I bought a tranny filter at Napa a few months ago. It came with 2 gaskets as well. (I've got a 42RE tranny) One fit my pan, the other didn't. I assume the other gasket fit sthe 46RE.

I paid 4 bux a qt. for the Vavoline ATF+4 Synthetic. I bought 15 qt's, Im going to run this stuff through and then another 1500 miles I'll do it again, since the tranny shop put in ATF+3 in the new tranny, and its in the TQ converter and I can't drain that out.

Why 15 quarts? I thought you only need about 3 when you change the filter and gasket and 6 quarts for the whole thing. Thanks

Independent I had thoughts of going to a dealer, basically to further my training, but screw it, the money is in the 'gravy'...brakes, suspension, and maint. like fluids, timing belts, etc. I don't mind not being a glorious Master Tech, although I have quite a bit of driveability knowledge, esp. with GM.

Yup, same filter, different pans.

He's basically doing his own 'flush'

After reading that, I think it'd be best to just pay the $ to have it actually flushed...especially if you're gonna try to reuse that crap gasket...at least spend a couple of bucks to get the reuseable o.e. one, or you'll likely be cursing when it leaks.

If you only have 1500 miles on your trans since an overhaul or reman replacement your wasting you money on a fluid and filter change. Check your owners manual, it recomends 25,000 mile service interval and so does the service manual. changing fluid and filter early doesn't really gain anything. If you are doing it to go to ATF +4 then by all means change away!!! much better fluid.
