Hey guys i just took my 2001 dodge ram to the shop because my check engine light was on and i needed to pass the smog test. So anyways the evap pump needs to be replace, the guy is charging me $330 i know the pump is only $150 does that seem right. I tried to say i was going to take it somewhere else and the guy said i owed him $75, i was so pissed and didnt want to deal with so i said just fix it. Was i ripped a new one ? lol thanks Ryan

Live and learn my freind. Next time go to a sidewalk parts dealer (Advance, Autozone, NAPA, Pep boys, etc.), get them to read the code, and tell you what the code means. Yes.

Why don't they just pass a law in california that says that you either ride a freakin horse or pay a million dollars. nancy pelosi would sponsor that one I bet.

If there was no indication of a charge on the initial work order, then you can't be charged, at least not full price, it's that easy. Here in Ohio, if the cost of diagnosis or repair will exceed $25, state law says you have to sign and check a box for verbal estimate, written estimate, or no estimate. The way you posted, it sounds like you got ripped and didn't know anything about a diag charge, look into it. I assume other states have similar consumer protection laws.

Must be nice......Here in the St Louis area we have to get TWO inspections every time we renew our plates. A emission test and a safety inspection. And yes - you have to go to TWO DIFFERENT PLACES to get them done. I HATE!!!

Oh - And yeah the stealership will get you.....I paid them $300 to replace a leaking evap canister - before I knew about this forum.....

See you live on the wrong side of the state, we only have the saftey inspection over here, no emissions testing.

HAHA. It's because of Chicago that a few counties around Milwaukee WI have to have their vehicles emissioned every other yr. It's been proven that the air pollution in SW Wisconsin mostly comes from the winds out of Chicago.
It's those same counties that have their gas mixed with the ethanol (reformulated) crap. The rest of the state doesnt have emissions nor has ethanol (reformulated) mixed gas. So I drive 20 miles each week to get the non ethanol (reforumlated) mid grade gasoline.

*shakes fist at Illinois*
