What size engine do the new fords have?

The 4.6L hasn't changed much in the truck line. It has 231hp.
The 5.4L was revised for 04 and has 3 valves per cylinder. It has 300hp. The older 2v 5.4L has 260hp
Also the 4.6L and the old 2v 5.4L had notorious problems with spark plugs blowing out of the heads. Supposedly the casting and design is thin and doesn't have a lot of threads holding the spark plug in. Ford fixed that problem in 04 with the 3v heads on the 5.4L

I'm still seeing it happen on the Ford boards. But yes, it was mostly the 5.4L and the right head. I don't think it was vehicle specific, but the added weight of the excursion and F-250 would lend itself to that. I'm just glad we don't have problems like that. Then I'd have 16 to worry about
That configuration of truck with the 5.4 would have ate you for lunch, I had an OFFROAD quad-cab that had power these 5.9 lacks, will probably be my next truck again as I am getting tired of the cracking in the suspension in these damn dodges, and 8 mpg

I bet it was a 5.4 Thanks for the responses!
P.S.
Does anybody else have the viper rocker arms?
I just figured out my gas MPG and with all the racing around with the new power they gave me I got an incredible 14.4 mpg
Thats 2mpg better than what I usually get!

The 5.4 liter is a 329.5....cubic inch, It is a turd in the F-250 quad cab long bed. I drive one for work and the engine is very overwoked in that truck. I'm surprised Ford would let a work truck that is suposed to tow off the plant floor set up like that. Even empty I drive in Haul/Tow mode to get the thing to move. My little Ole Dodge 6 cylinder could walk all over that Ford. Well OK its a 6 cylinder 360ci Cummins, but its still a 6 banger! Ha Ha!!

A truck that big should have the diesel motor in it, quad & long bed, thats alot of weight, sounds like it was ordered that way as a work truck. My Offroad Ford had some serious *** behind it..

Don't scoff at 6-bangers. You should know that the 6-cylinder engines produce better low-end torque, which equates to better pulling off the line. That's something you want in a truck. The inherent weakness in a 6-cylinder is the crank, because of its length. In the long run, a straight-6 will outperform a V8. If anyone doesn't believe me, then please explain why 6's were banned from racing back in the 60's.

eh,The Ford 4.2 V6 was one of the worst engines ever built.BY FAR.Now for knocking 6cylinders I wont do that,Inline 6's that is.I have a 4.0HO In my Cherokee and it will eat my Ram for lunch on the bottom end.I had a Ford 4.9 300 Inline that was a tank. And had more HP Then the 5.0.Mostly all Inline 6's cant be beat. But the V6 is something that should go away

I rode in an '03 V10 Ford tonight...we were towing a '99 5.7L 3/4 Ton Silverado (dead fuel pump) on the trailer...and we pulled it off the trailer with my V10 Dodge, so we had all brands involved [8D]
That Ford sure couldn't handle the load. I thought the receiver hitch was gonna drag on the ground [8D]....and it sure struggled with less than 8000lbs (truck & trailer combined) behind it. [&:] The only positive I found was the exhaust note of the Ford. It sounded a lot nicer than my truck.
BTW, the Silverado is currently in my garage. Pulling the bed tomorrow...gonna see if I can do it in less than 15mins. [8D]

I must have been misunderstood. I own a I6 Cummins Turbo Diesel and love it. I've owned the a jeep I6 4.0L, Ford I6, VW I5 and have liked them all, ran the ford with a chunk of metal in one of the cylinders for 12,000 miles. I am the biggest fan of the inline 6 cylinder. I'm a heavy equipment operator so I listen to 6 banger diesels all day long. I think the reason Ford and Chevy went with a V8 is so the didn't look like they were copying Dodge/Cummins.
