Default Audio/Speaker question

I am trying to decide what exactly to do with my 01 Ram 1500 4x4 offroad's (quad cab) audio system. My truck came stock with the component infinity package, however, I am ready for some more sound and power. My main question concerns the size of the speakers all the way around. I understand the tweeters to be 1" (like most all aftermarket tweeters), but I want to make sure to buy a design that fits in the factory a-pillar mounts. Also, does anyone know exactly the stock size of cutouts for the front and rear door speakers? I see alot of guys with 5 1/4" all the way to 6x9 in this truck, but I don't think i'm interested in fabricating mounting plates. Just the stock door size. The typical infinite wisdom of dodge forum'ers is appreciated.

and oh yeah...I know everyone has their own opinions on what the best equipment is, but I was also considering installing a small single 8 or 10" sub...specifically a very clean subtle hitting sub to compliment the new speakers. I'm a country boy so all I need is to hear the lows in randy travis' voice, not blow g-unit away down the block...has anyone been able to mount a sub like this tucked away, maybe under a seat? thanks for the advice ya'll.

I know the regular cab trucks have 6X9's in the doors and 5 1/4's in the back. I'm not sure if it's different for the quad cab trucks though. If you give a car audio installation company in your area a call they should be able to help you out.

As far as the sub woofer goes there's a few options. One is an MTX thunderform LIKE THIS. It sits under the rear seat and sound pretty good. It should be more than enough for what you want. And if it's too loud you can always turn down the bass with your head unit.

www.hifisoundconnection.com... they make a really nice tucked under the rear seat box that holds two tens. great for the response clarity and volume.

personally i like the infinty speakers and infinty reference subs. they are really clear even against the carpet in the back. check my gallery and you can see my set up

the kenwood amp i'm running has a remote gain on it to adjust the power. whatever amp you decide on i strongly suggest making sure it has a remote unit to it. i can also change the frequency the subs respond at. just a little more flexibility.

it's a good set up but not competition by any means.. need a better head unit for that anyway.

with the infinty system you've got stock amps for the speakers so i'd go get steve's christmas present before i'd tear into it. they have a really good diagram for the audio systems in the trucks.

you should have 6x9's in the front and 5 1/4 in the rear.

www.hifisoundconnection.com...

you get referral credit dont you?.. lol jk.

anyways.. 5 1/4s for the door speakers, and for subs.. either 8-10" is good for your country. there is that console sub box by JLA.. but depending.. look at my gallery and see if you want speakers to show like that (or straight down).. or just the single in the center console..

Good luck, and I cant wait to see what you do.

crazy1...thanks for the advice. It looks like i'm going to purchase my equipment from hifisoundconnection...they look very legitimate. The thought of getting a detailed diagram peeks my interest...what do you mean by "steve's christmas present" and where can I find the diagram? thanks alot.

damn ya beat me to it.

yeah the custom box that i got from them has really worked out well. i even added some 4 inch pioneers to help out the top end. i still need to build a box to slide in there to isolate the speakers... would make them work better...
