Default Battery terminal post too thin.

One of my battery terminal posts has gotten smaller in diameter, I assume from cleaning, general use, etc. Now, when I tighten down the battery cable connection, it tightens all the way, but the cable is still loose on the post (not real loose, but I can turn it by hand when it is fully tightened). If the post were a little thicker, it would tighten down nice and tight, but it's not thick enough anymore. Is there a way to beef up the post again so that the cable can tighten on it? I hate to replace the battery, there is nothing wrong with this battery overall, and I don't really want to try another battery cable, it is also fine. The post is just not thick enough anymore. Any suggestions?

you could cut a peice of brass or copper shim .005-.010 thk. and wrap it around the post, then put the cable on.

I know with some batteries you can replace the post. I had a die hard one time that had dual post on the + and - side that would screw out of the battery. 2001ramsport also has a pretty good idea. You wouldn't even need to wrap it arond the post , just put a small piece in between the post and the connector. You shold still get good contact.

Warranty on my truck or on the battery? I know I don't have one on the truck anymore. I doubt i ever had one on the battery.

i'm going with the shim on that one. just wrap a piece of sheet metal there and you'll be fine. just make sure it's not aluminum.

How about using a penny? But, a guy on another forum told me that any shim not made of stainless, or lead, will set up a galvanic condition & cause corrosion.

Correct, dissimilar metals will corrode, and rapidly...stainless or lead.

Is the cable end all of the way down on the post? I've (carefully) taken a socket that's just larger than the post and tap the end down a little bit...never cracked a battery, and they've tightened right up. Definately not something I learned in school tho
