Performance PCM
Ok, I'm always lookin for new performance stuff to do to my Ram. I just glanced at somethin about a performance PCM. I'll ask the same question I ask about every mod....what's it do for my truck? What's it do for my gas mileage? How much does it cost? AND....
Do you have one and do you like it?

I have one and I love it
It's like a hypertech or superchips programmer, only it's not adjustable. From what I've read so far in Silver_Dodge's thread though, it seems to give more power than the programmers do.
Mileage is questionable though. It generally helps a V10 owners mileage. Not sure what it does for a V8 owner though. It's also important to note that you MUST run premium fuel with it.
Also, you cannot just go out and buy one. They've been discontinued for quite a while. I know it took Silver_Dodge a long time to get a hold of one.

I already run premium with my hypertech...and it really sucks that they discontinued the PCM programmers. May look around for one, do some diggin.
Thanks rom. BTW i'm gettin a TB spacer.... ROFL j/k. I know how well you love them.

I should've mentioned that it's not actually a programmer. It's a reprogrammed replacement PCM. It's not changeable like the Hypertech.
ebay is usually a good place to find them. I've posted on here about quite a few that I've found there already.
There's only one on there for a Ram right now, and it's for a 98.

I punched this part number (p4876893) into www.wholesalemopar.com and got a return. This is supposed to be the part number for the performance PCM. $360.00 too ... quite the bargain. Think they actually have them?
I got the number off the eBay auction for the same item.

Doubtful that they have it. I remember hearing from someone that the part number will show up on sites like that, but when you order the item it comes up out of stock. They have been discontinued for quite some time.
The only place that would show that they have them, and have them for sure, would be www.mopartsracing.com

Hmm....with a child due any minute now I think I'll hold off on a performance PCM for now. Thanks for the input rom.

Mines only been in the truck for about a week, but so far I am VERY happy. In the past, I ran the Hypertech on both the mid grade and the premium grade settings, and this PCM is definetly better. Now, keep in mind that I also have several other mods that respond well to the type of fuel curves and timing advance the PCM gives me. The Hypertech was designed for a near stock truck.
To enhance my new Mopar Performance PCM, I am also getting a Split Second ARM1 (Air/Fuel Ratio Monitor) and ARC1 (Air/Fuel Calibrator, also known as a ROE controller) to manual adjust my air/fuel ratios on the fly, mainly when in open-loop conditions (wide-open throttle). Your desired air/fuel ratio is around 14.7:1, which can be easily maintain at idle and cruising rpms if your PCM is dialed in correctly. It's when you have a modified truck, and you hit wide open throttle, you start to either run rich or lean because the PCM can not compensate for the increases it is getting from the various mods you have added. The ARC1 allows you to lean or richen low load conditions (like idle and cruising) by adding a variable offset to the input signal, and high load conditions (wide open throttle) by changing the signal gain. In this way, you can manually adjust your signal inputs to the PCM on the fly so that it maintains that perfect 14.7:1 a/f ratio under all load conditions. They also have software that you can buy to permenantly program these changes (in a much more accurate way) right into the MAP and IAT tables stored in your PCM, but it is much more expensive, and not adjustable on the fly like the ARC1. I prefer that adjustability. I'll keep you all posted on how it goes.
