Stick with the 180...you'll HATE the 160 in the winter.

The 160 will also almost always cause you to stay in open-loop mode which will cause you to run rich, and will throw code (p1281 I recall). 180 is definetly what you want to us.

Would changing the thermostat on a 99' v-10 from the stock factory thermostat to one of these 180 degree units benifit my truck. Is there a specific make that I should look into . Truck also has the JET chip , K&N fipk, and looking into the throtle bodies from Fastman. I realize the chip not only interferes with elbow room in the engine compartment but might not provide suffient enough gains to warrent there use , but I need to run the truck on some longer trips to test its claim as to improving m.p.g.. So any input as to this configuration would be appreciated

A 180* t-stat is defintely beneficial on the V10, especially if you have a performance PCM like I do. It's not a cheap part though. If I remember right, it's around $50-$60 [&:]

It's a HD unit.........and can be kind of a PAIN to change out. But the 180 is the only way to go in a V10 IMO.

With the v-10 what are the performance gains that come with installing this unit. Is there a specific manufacturer that I should look into for the part.

I' ve replaced thermostat on other vehicles befor, does the v-10 present obstacles that i should leave up to the pros.

Thanks.

It's not that kind of mod...one that will add x amount of horsepower or torque. It's a supporting mod...one that will help out other mods. It keeps engine temps down and reduces the chance of pinging/knock. It might help the engine make a little more power, because of the cooler temps, but not much. It's a MUST have when towing with a performance PCM.

It's also not one of those mods were there are a lot of manufacturers. STANT is a good manufacturer, but I only see them listing a 190* unit. Not sure who makes 180s actually. Maybe pipedreams will post the manufacturer of the one he posted the picture of.

Here are the install instructions: http://dodgeram.org/tech/gas/V10/v10thermostat.htm

BTW, the stock ones list from $21 to $35 at most auto parts stores. I know the dealer list in the $50 range [&:]
