Default Catalytic Converter test

I've began to experience a loss of power especially once the truck heats up on long trips. Here in Texas that doesn't take long.

123K 99 4x4 5.9 35"BFG 3.73's K&N CAI, Gibson exhaust, recent Hypertech - but no help.
Bosch Platinum plugs 35 gap.

Sometimes it feels like a different truck -runs great other times it down shifts on over-passes and slight hills, running without OD seems to help a bit.

Thinking it's the Cat, never had an issue with this truck since the day i drove it off the lot on 5-2-00

Any thoughts?

The 2nd gen catalytic converters are currently in a recall/extended warranty plan. More info here: https://dodgeforum.com/m_352822/tm.htm

If you believe it's failing, you should be able to take it to a dealer and have them check it out and replace it under the new warranty.

Just out of curiousity, are those bosch plugs just the normal platinums or the platinum +4s?

I believe just the Platinums only a single electrode if that helps any.

Possible problem?

No, not with the single electrode plugs. The +4s have been known to be poor plugs in...well, pretty much every motor. [&:]

I would get the converter checked out though.

Your gear ratio and tire size combo aren't so good (for both mileage and power), but I'm guessing you've had it that way for a while. That wouldn't cause any new losses of power

you can get the converter tested by measuring the input and output temps... the output should be greater than the input. if the input's hotter than the output, its plugged. if they're equal, the cat is dead but flowing, if the output is hotter than the input, its working ok.

a muffler shop should be able to do this test. find one with a temp measuring gun.

Or you can just crawl under the truck when its cold and wack the cat with your hand really hard. If it rattles its going bad

how about no wack... use the right tools to test it. if it's rattling you'll hear it when it's good and hot and you get ready to shut it down.

Well i replaced it with a HF Magnaflow cat yesterday and the lack luster power is still present.

I'm at a loss, maybe it's the Tq. convertor.

Something is robbing power especially when trailering a Bass boat and i have to start at a hill or pull up a steep ramp.

Long tall hill fugetabouit.

Tq convert ?????
