adapters are fairly expensive. you can get some used stock dodge rims and have the tires mounted on those for not much more.
also, the further out you extend the wheels, the more stress you put on the hub bearings. 1" isn't going to matter much, but keep that in mind.

remember the weight of the truck... it's about 5000 lbs... give or take a few. with every inch you put the tire further out it ads an inch to the torque calculations of the hubs. with these trucks there is a pretty good factor of safety but know that when you add that inch it's like adding 5000lbs of torque onto the hubs. one inch the hubs will be able to handle but remember with age metal degrades, rusts, fatigues, and a crap load else of bad things. with a lot of miles on the truck i wouldn't even consider putting a spacer on the wheel.

it's called engineering.

be cheaper to buy a different set of rims that would work on the truck than it would be to fix a busted axle, hub, front end, NEW TRUCK. if that thing breaks on highway speeds.. you're toasted.

just my opinion.

you're not going to be able to find a 1 inch adapter plate because of the studs already coming out of the wheel hub are bigger than that. a lot bigger. more like 2 inches.

Correct...for off-road use only.

I woulnd't run them anyway, for the reason crazy1snow pointed out...the truck weighs 5000lbs. More than 5000 actually. The half tons weigh somewhere around 5700lbs. My 3/4 ton weighs 6700lbs with fuel and driver. If one of them fails on you going down the road, it won't be pretty and you could endanger those around you as well. [:'(]

i dont know where you get your weights from...my '98's curb weight is around 4700 pounds. you are quoting the max vehicle/combined load weight

For the sake of argument ... why would we WANT to use curb weight?

curb weight
n.
The weight of a fueled automobile with standard equipment but without cargo or passengers.

We use our trucks to DO stuff. Torque is applied to loaded bearing surfaces. I've personally carried over 800 lbs in the bed of my 1/2 ton rated truck while myself and two boys went along for the ride. The rating is for cargo AND passengers. Total load? Well over 1200 pounds. I was bumping the snubs all the way home.

I would use gross vehicle weight also ... it's a (supposedly though often exceeded) worst case scenario.

That's the base curb weight for a 1/2 ton regular cab longbox 2wd with BASE options. Add an extended cab, front axle, transfer case, larger tires, and a passenger, and you're past 5000lbs easy

Like Bill said, you never want to go with curb weight anyway.

The weight for my truck is EXACT (well, rounded to the nearest hundred). I had it weighed [8D]
