Default overheating

ok.... my trucks been overheating quite a bit recently...... temperatures around here have been in the high 90s and occasionally breaking into triple digits. is this why its overheating? or should i be worried that something else might be wrong? i have the stock t-stat (195 i believe).... and the trucks always run right at 200. but its been well over that recently, sometimes getting up to about 220 (when it gets that hot i pull over and turn on the heat for a while to let it cool back down)

im just wondering if yall think its the heat or if something could be wrong?

My truck runs right at the 200 line or a tad above.I just hit 120K so I am going to swap out the waterpump and tstat being that they are the original.Sometimes the impellers on the pumps can disentigrate and it wont give you the normal signs of the pump being bad.Depending on your milage it might be something to consider.

I think it might be something else. I have a black dodge with the stock t-stat and it has been over 100 degrees, up to 107, for at least 3 weeks, probably more. The only problem i have had with overheating was when i let my truck idle for a while, but as long as i am driving it always stays around the normal temp, 200 or so.

I'm having a simular problem on my 2000 3500/5.9L diesel when towing. I leaning toward the radiator cap or I'm trying drive like a teenager I'm pulling approx. 12000 fifth wheel and have never had the needle peg and the warning lights. before I go to the dealer I'd like other advice.
and as shott8283 says I'll say I am a teacher and I am a retired senior NCO (RVN 68-69)

Muddy it could be one of three things in my mind
Clutch fan could be taking a dump.
Thermostat might not be working right.
Also could be the water pump.

How old is the coolant? Test it with a cooant tester. If not up to snuff, Then try a flush, refill.
