Default Next project--need help

Since the installation of the leveling kit, I will be putting on some bigger rubbers. I know i will need gears. Im pretty sure i have the stock 3.55 gears, and would like to go up to the 4.10. I will obviously do front and rear, and would like to know where the best place to get them would be? The junk yard nearby has a 01 off-road edition with only 35000 miles on it that has been totaled. He said if i want, i can just have the gears. I think they are 4.10s in teh off-road edition arent they? Would it be possible for those to fit in my truck...a 1998 SLT 1500? And does anyone know of any tech articles on install, i have a pretty good idea, but this would be my first time with gears on my own...ive helped several times, but never alone. any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

could be fun...nothing like getting to take apart a truck you could care less about...and you can learn on the crap truck how to remove the gears and such, and if you break something..so be it...its like free ASE training at your own leisure

haha....you do bring up a very good point there. maybe i will have to do that. if they dont fit my truck, someone let me know, i can hook someone on here up with them, just the cost of shipping kind of thing. if they are 4.10s and will fit mine, im keeping them!!

There's no reason for them not to fit. Both trucks are 1/2 tons, right? Should be corporate 9.25 axles. Take `em.

Oh, and the front will still be a Dana 44. I'm not certain but they may STILL be doing that combo in the 3rd gen 1/2 tons.

Check and see what it will cost you to get the complete axles. If the cost is low enough, it will save the cost to have someone set up the gears. You might luck out and the rear will have a posi in it.

Just take the entire front and rear axle off the doner truck!! Way easier to swap them then attempt to remove the gears and have them re-installed.
