Water Pump almost DOA...Info on change
Well its grinding away.So its parked until I get time off to fix it.Now i have done many water pumps.Just wondering if there is any tricks or anything I need to look out for when I do it.The one book I have says I have to remove everything to do this,Rad,AC Compressor,Pull the power steerig to the side, etc. Now when i look at it it looks like i just need to remove the shroud,Fan and pull the Power steering pump out of the way?Does this sound right?BTW its a 96,.5.2 4x4 Thanks!
it not that hard you dont have to mess with the power steering goto take the clutch fan off and the shourd which is a few bolts pull the ac pump off and move it to like ontop of the engine and remove the big bracket under it then just pull the water pump i did it all at once i did timing chain front cover gasket timing chain tensioner main seal all that somebody will probally post the link to the page that shows the pics on what to do
Hey while your in there, you may as well pull the timing chain cover and replace timing chain, your already almost to it, may as well go a little further, and make sure you replace that little bypass hose, do not reuse it.
and if you do the chain, dont forget the front seal on the timing chain cover... and loosen the oil pan bolts a little so it comes apart easier. swapping the chain should only add about another 1~2 hours max. (depending on how comfortable you are with a wrench)
Go with a quality double roller from summit, thats what I did, and a little hint when you put in the seal for timing chain cover Steve spoke of, pack it full of white lithium grease, pops right into place, no muss no fuss, no bending.................oh and treat that oil pan seal at the bottom of the cover like a newborn baby, make sure it is set in the groove when you reassemble and be careful not to break it when you seperate chain cover from motor
