5.9 to 5.2 engine swap questions (1500)
I want to put a 5.2 engine from a 94 1500 into a 96 1500 that has a 5.9. Questions:
Will the 5.2 mount to the tranny in the 96 truck?
What about the exhaust?
Any tips from prior experiences?

I bought a 94 with 120,000 on the 318, sight unseen on ebay. I have a 1988 with 260,000 towing and work miles on it that I have had for 15 years and Love, so I bought the "low miles" truck figuring I would need to do some work to square it away and I would have a long life truck. I wasnt planning on having to throw it away because of undercarriage rot. It looks like it was driven into the ocean....serious rot, and not an easy fix.
Instead of losing out on 2000 dollars, totally, I have the option of buying a 96 in very good physical condition, but in need of an engine for 500.
If it is a straight swap (I have the pcm from the 94) as far as the engine goes, then my next concern would be having to replace an entire exhaust system...I am trying to recoop a bad purchase.
Thanks for your response....Ron

THe 5.2 to 5.9 swap will work but you must use the 5.2 flex plate and crankshaft damper which comewith the 5.2. The 5.2 is an internally balanced engine while the 5.9 is externally balanced by the weights on the flex plate and crankshaft damper.
Just went the other way on my 98. Everything other than the short block, the crank dampener, and the flexplate appear identical. Hopefully I'll find out if it worked in the next couple days...

Should bolt in with ease. You'll need a PCm from a '94 5.2 though.
Just wondering but why go from a 360 to a 318?

The rest of the sensors from the 5.9 should swap over to the 5.2...I thinkIt would also HAVE to be a PCM from a truck with an automatic transmission, as he has an RE transmission and would need a computer capable of controling the shifts.
PCM = Powertrain Control Module (aka Computer...aka ECM...aka ECU)
