new mod..was bored today
man iwas really bored today... changed the oil, plugs, cap and rotor,, didnt take too long... tnkered in the garaged a but..and found some foglights a bought a while back..and started thinking... they are afterburner brand..uknown wattage or anything... but they are stupid bright.. and then poped the hood and took a look at the cheezy small *** underhood lamp that always burns out...and then a lightbulb went off in my head... and this is what i came up with..
to show how fricken dark it is outside
little fuzzy but you get the idea
illuminated rocker switch controls both,,, and really easy to wire off of from the PDC
the whole shabang
these pics were taken with the flash manually turned off...absolutley no flash used here... thats all from the truck... i also have a 12V power supply from a old camper that plugs into the wall (converted) and i made a seperate hookup so i can plug it into the supply when i have it in the garage working on the motor or anything else.. mainly so i dont drain the battery b/c these things pull a big of power...
anyway.. easy mod..very usefull..especially for hardcore offroaders ... or anyway driving at night and need added light...
the lights are screwed into the substructure of the hood, and wires routed through the substructer and mostley hidden... pretty sweet.

damn thats nice... how long until your battery dies though? (really asking how much current do they draw)...
I might try that other idea I mentioned to you earlier... they would consume alot less current and last a long time.
edit: btw, will you need sunglasses at night while working on your motor? lol [sm=icon_stickpoke.gif] <jk>

LOL... well i had these running off the battery for around 3 hours... while shooting out some wires, and anoter 40 mins cleaning up and goofing with some other crap,,, and she started right up...
yea they are fricken bright.. its nice not having to deal with a damn drop light and positioning it just perfect to get the light where i need it (like the damn dist. cap screws) .. i also sat there for a good 30 mins figuring out what else i could do tomorow to it since ill be bored yet again... so id say 4 hours total..
only thing about the idea you mentioned to me earlier was that youd need a bunch of them.. but then again you could remotley place them and shine light all up and down and all over the place... thsese are big and awkwork and had to find the perfect spot for them..

You know what works even better? A set of lights out of an old Chevy....or a set of the lights that GM sells now as add-in equipment. They are a reel type light, and have enough cord in them to get you to the back of the vehicle (for tire changes and such). I have set in my Ramcharger out of a 60's Chevy...wired up to a switch in the cab.
Here's the current GM model: http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.m...ode=GPLIGHTING
Mine are larger and round, and made of metal (obviously) since they're from the 60s [8D] Plus they're not blinding And I've left them on by accident before for over 24 hours...so they don't draw next to anything from the battery.

I wandered down by my Ramcharger in the back yard and took some pics of the old Chevy lights. I don't think they have the 20ft of wire like that newer model I posted does, but they have enough to get to the back of the truck (as I've done it before). I didn't demonstrate the length for the pictures though...because I didn't want to wind it all back up [8D]
