I have had a tick since I bought my truck,96 5.2 4x4.Anyways I only heard it louder when I was between 2 cars or buildings.Tonight it seems to be a little more pronounced.Sounds like it is coming directly below where the oil fill is.Louder on idle.Anything to quiet this or a way to permanently fix it?Im sort of mechanically inclined but I have never had an engine apart.Lifters I guess?Any help will do thanks!

 

Some marvel mystery oil added to the crankcase might quiet it down.

If it's an internal tick (most likely lifters) it won't be fixable without tearing the motor down, at least part way...to access the lifters.

 

Any chance of longterm damage or is it just an annoyance?it isnt very loud but Im kinda of a perfectionist.
