To answer a few questions in this thread...

Typical price for gears + install is between $400 and $500 an axle.

Dodge has an assembly plant in Mexico that builds trucks for the American market. They've had one there for decades

4:10s were standard in Off-road package Rams. Optional on everything else.

Rear discs were on the 01 1/2 tons and 01 & 02 3/4 ton and 1-ton trucks. Stick with the drums and upgrade the wheel cylinders...much cheaper

You will notice a performance loss going from 285s to 35s without re-gearing. Not so much on the highway, but definitely from a stop.

Last but not least, rear axles are all the same....doesn't matter if it's 2x4 or 4x4

that would explain why my buddies 01 sport non offroad has stamped 4.10 diffs...

and as far as i know there were absolutly no 1/2 tons with disc brakes.. they made the switch to rear discs in 01 and 02 with the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks.. but no 1/2 tons came off the factory line with disc brakes.. mines a 01 and it had drums, and everyone else i know on here with 01's and other forums with 01's have drums..

to be exact.. 2001.5: All 2500, 3500 Four wheel Disc Brake - built after Jan 1, 2001
