dont be afraid to run 5W30 in your truck. I run 5W30 dam near all year around, even at -40C up here.
5W30 is what I'd run too if the temps got that low

I don't drive my truck in the winter though, so 10W30 works just fine for me

Thanks for the info. The guy I bought it from said he has been putting in 100% Synthetic 10W30. I'll be ready for an oil change in about 1 more month. Should I switch to 5w30 then? I'm in Utah, and the cold part of winter starts around mid december. Typically though it never drops below freezing.

The battery seems to have no problem with cranking.

I would run 5W30 in the winter if temps never get above 40. 10W30 is fine for the summers though.

I picked up the truck last night[8D] Love the power of the V-10, feels as strong as my chipped and intaked and exhausted cummins. Changed the plugs today, the originals had about a 100 thousandths gap[] All I can say is WOW, it will bun the tires off from a 20 MPH roll[8D] BurningRom, is there a problem with duals on the V-10? The muffler and tailpipe look pretty ratty, It looks like If I try to replace the muffler the tailpipe is getting changed one way or another. I was looking at Dynomax's Dual kit for my truck, and hallowing out the cats, as one is rattling anyway. I like the look of "Twice pipes" but will it hurt performance on the V10? One more question, will the V-10 pull 305 0r 315 tires with the 3.55 gears, or will I need to re-gear the axles. I plan on pulling a open car trailer with either my TJ(Trail rig), SRT-4 ACR(AutoCross/Trackday car), 87 GLHS(Soon to be Drag car), or 25Ft Wellcraft Nova with it, so I'm looking at ~7500 -8000 Lbs behind it. Thanks Murf

Yes, duals are terrible on the V10. They sound horrid, and they degrade the performance of the motor. There was another guy in WI that tried pretty much every exhaust setup out there on his V10, and none of the dual exhaust systems worked well or sounded very good. Stick with the stock Y. Pick up a gibson or spintech muffler, and use a 4" tailpipe. That seems to be the best setup for replacing the muffler/tailpipe. Headers also help out quite a bit!

Also, if you're going to hollow out your cats, you'll probably need 1 (or 2, if there are 2 post cat sensors) of the o2 simms that the fastman sells: www.thefastman.com

As far as the tires, 285s are probably all you could get away with. I'm running 265s myself with 4.10 gears. If you're going to put on 305s or 315s AND tow, you'll probably want to jump up to 4.56s. If you stay below 305s, you would be fine with 4.10s.

There are no O2 sensors behind the converters on my truck. So I will not be needing the sims. Do the duals on the V-10 sound anything like the Viper rear exit duals? I know many people do not like the sound the viper produces either, however I knda like it. Or is it another problem, like a drone or something.

Be very carful with the exhust or your mighty V10 will sound like an import. Somthing about 2 cylinders firing at the same time give the effect of an import. I've heard it and couldn't believe it. I thought the truck was a v6 but it was a 10. I like the vipers sound, but I'm not sure if that translates to the older v10 trucks. My exhust is comming up for replacement and I'd rather have a stock sounding truck than a loud import sound. Funny how my 302 v8 mustang sounds way beter than my 488 v10.

No...it doesn't sound like the Viper. Most systems either have a rasp to them or a terrible drone.

As far as the V8 vs V10 debate, the V10 doesn't have the overlap that a V8 has. That's why you don't have the throaty V8 noise from the motor. You can change the noise a bit with a different cam, but you'd have to be able to change the firing order (with a new crankshaft) in order to change the sound.

My dad has a 94 V-10, I know that it is a bit older than what you are looking at, but with a regular cab and 285/75R16, he is lucky to get 8 mpg he says. The way he puts it to me is that if you point the key at the truck, the gas gauge will drop 1/8 of a tank.

sure nice to see other v10 posted have a94 bought it new 4 16 -94 the wife drove it most of the time [co truck]. she has a car now and the v10 is mine . it has 210k on it when she drove it she got 15- 17 [ok] the same day i drive and it is 13-15. cant understand it. it still is 12 -14 mpg. now one u wont believe but t t . she came fron wichita ks to okc and she got 20 mpg it has never made that again???.
i have a set of ss headers a friend bought off e bay for his ford they wouldnt work so he gave them to me . now an afraid to put them on if they are junk,, am going to get one of the new x mufflers . why in the viper tests, they put an x in the ex and it sounded good . they said it blended the sound . any one tried that??
i live in a sandy soil here and the 10 would bury its self all the time. so i went to a 305 tire and it is much better . but u can sure tell its not as quick as before.. but it will still pull a loaded stock trailer like it wasent there.
