Changed my thermostat
I changed my thermostat yesterday and put a 180 in it. Now the converter locks up again just like normal and the truck runs alot cooler. I wish there was a performance gain from it, but I like the temp now.
some say there is a small performance gain b/c the temp runs a bit cooler and when the pcm switches loop modes it richens the mixture just a but to try and warm up the motor.. but this isnt a fact nor been proven.. just a theroy.. and something that your pcm might learn itself out of and think 180 is normal op temp after a 200 mile learning cycle.. regardless. a lower tstat will keep that motor cooler and cooler motors are happy motors.
to make it learn faster you could reset the pcm by unhooking the neg batt cable and turning the key to start and hold it for 30 seconds..this will force the pcm into learn mode and takes approx 200 miles to complete.. still wouldnt hurt to do so when you do mods of this nature.

I figured the only gain would cooler intake temps due to coller engine temps. I know now when I go to the track, the truck will cooler quicker when I'm waiting in line. I was thinking about resetting the computer.
I don't know. I don't know why it would throw a code like that. The only way I could think of to avoid that would be to take some cardboard and cover part of the radiator.
I haven't had mine out in the cold yet, so I don't know if it will throw a code or not. If it doesn't warm up in the winter - do like the one guy said and put a piece of cardboard in front of part of the radiator.
The 180 tstat made a noticeable performance difference on mine, but it was the last thing I did after all the other stuff, so maybe it just allowed the other mods to perform at their best......

i ran my 180 all last winter (western NY,, gets friggen COLD..especially driving on the freeway) and i never poped a code.. i have heard very few cases that people pop codes.. i think its either a hit or miss.. if you do end up poping a code..reset the pcm and see if you can get it to relearn that the operating temp is now 180 instead of the stock tstat temp..
no..i wish it did allow you to change the op temp.. i had an actual hypertech stat in my truck and it got stuck open and the thing wouldnt warm up..mileage went to crap.. just a bitch to drive.. this happend in the winter.. the plunger got kicked off its post on the top hoop and was wedged open.. almost half way i would say.. would hurt to pull it and check it and make sure.
