Default Performance Mods

Okay, First of all I just found and reg for this website, so far I love it. Anyways, I have a 94 Reg Cab Longbed 5.2 Dodge Ram 1500, I love this truck and want to do some performance mods to it, to start out I want to do Intake, Exhaust and a Chip, I don't know if getting an entire K&N Air Intake system would be best or just go for the Airfilter second, I've tried and tried and can't find a decent set of headers for this truck for under $300, and finally if anyone knows a good computer chip for this 94 that'd be great aswell, this is my first truck and I'm 17 and still going to High School so I have a budget.

Thanks a bunch

Phil

I beleive the only way to go for a '94 is a Mopar Performance PCM. I thinkk the hypertech only work on '97+ Rams. They don't make the Mopar Performance PCM's anymore so you have to look on ebay and places like that to find one. Burning Rom usually post links to some when he runs across them.

Hypertech makes a piggyback performance pcm [not programmable]for '94's although it can be difficult to find one,its not as aggresive as a mopar performance pcm,I have both and actually got a bit better mileage with the hypertech but the mopar performance pcm was best for power but we won't even discuss the mileage decrease

Check with summitracing for the headers. They sell a set of edelbrock ti-tech ceramic coated headers for $320 shipped. I am running them on my dodge and I love them. THey will bolt right up to your stock exhaust until you can redo the whole exhaust.

I always figured the PCM would learn it's way around any chip piggy backed to it. But if the hypertech power tuning module works then I guess that's another option.

thanks for all your guys advice, I looked up those Edelbrock headers, I like em minus the price and I found the Hypertech chip on summit for around $250, 1 thing at a time, but I was wondering should I get the entire K&N Air intake system or just the airfilter? oh fyi I looked and I have a Flowmaster on my ram can't tell if their 40s or whatever but I believe that they are 2" dual, but I wanted to go 2.5" with dual flowmasters, drill out the cat and it has a H pipe atm, when I redo the complete exhaust should I go Y pipe or X pipe, which would have the best bang for the buck and sound the best?

i'd get the whole K&n system, less restriction. and forget the chips. waste of money. your computer on your truck learns what the chip does and adjusts itself back to normal. i had the jet chip and was very dissapointed, and all the people here explained to me why.
Dont get a throttle body spacer either... its a really expensive paper weight. I had one of those too.

On the exhaust, I don't think they make a Y or X kit for these trucks. Your exhaust will be duals strait from the headers back to the mufflers and out.
