just a little idea for you guys
if ya'll want a cheap way to make your truck look better underneath.. i painted my axles black.. but the differential cover stainless steel.. costs 3 bucks for a can of black spray paint. and 3 for a can of stainless steel.. after i did it i was glad i did because it made the truck look 10 times better from the back.. the front too if you paint your front!
the front you can barely see but going down the road it really stands out

That was one of the first things i did also, i used undercoat and silver spray paint for the covers, now i wish i used POR-15 because all the mud sits in the little divits in the undercoat and it looks brown again.
really.. you might be better off just getting a chrome or stainless steel cover.. its gonna be hard to keep that paint looking good with all the mudding you do.. im about go get under there and paint my entire undercarriage with black rust protectant paint.. might help come winter time with all that salt getting on the metal
20dodgeram01 when you do that is there anything that your going to cover and protect from being painted and if how are you going to tape it off. for example your engine and headers and transmission?
i did the same.. i was worried at first for overspray.. but if you do it outside on a breezy day.. by the time the overspray reaches anything you dont want painted..itll be half way dried and willl wash off after a few washes.. or a sload of rain... now when you get close to the tranny/motor/exhaust sometimes it cant be helped.. ive succesfully used tinfoil and ceran wrap to do a ruff mask on stuf.. especially tin foil.. works really well.. super quick and leaves decent lines where needed.
Take a red scotchbrite, scuff up the diff cover, tape around it, spray. Don't spray it on your motor/headers/trans. If you're still concerned about overspray, I'd suggest taping a piece of carboard or plastic on both sides above your axle while spraying.
It would be no worse then the roadpaint/chemicals/whatever that it comes in contact with daily.

yeah.. im going to try to prevent rust from occuring on this truck.. im sure a nice coat of paint will help come winter time.. if you just keep it somewhat close to the metal that'll help keep the over spray down.. and if there is over spray like said before you wont even notice it at all. also if you want to get into detail.. im thinking about taking 1 bolt out at a time from the differential cover and painting it black so it'll give it a little offroad look
