Default changing the tracbar

need to change the tracbar on my 99 2500 4x4. was wondering if I jack up the whole front and take it off if anything is under pressure and is gonna start getting out of line and stop me from putting the new one in? I downloaded the service manual from
this site but it doesn't give me the answeres I am looking for on the tracbar. I don't want to remove it and cause more problems
that I can't fix when I start this. I also want to change the shock down there(steering damper?) thanks for your help!

I don't remember jacking the truck when I replaced the trackbar. I DO remember crawling around under the truck while doing it, though. I believe that jacking will make it harder to replace. You'll be hanging the axle ... trying to stretch the bar. It doesn't support verticaly ... only horozontally.

Just have a friend available when you go to put the new one in. Have them turn the steering wheel for you while you line the bar up and install the bolt. Moving the steering wheel with the truck on the ground will cause the truck to shift back and forth just enough for you to get it back together. Really is an easy job, don't stress.

I changed mine while the truck was on all 4's. Removed the old one and installed the new without any hassle at all. Probably one of the easiest repairs I have ever done.

question for you guys,
how do you know when the tracbar needs replaced? does the steering just go to crap and seem to wander all over the road. i know that the dodge tracbars are supposedly junk.

the rubber bushings on mine looked like dried up roastbeef and I wanted to change it before winter. the truck feels better overall
when I go over bumps. It used to throw me all over the road on the highway at 65mph when I hit bumps. next I want to swap out
the steering stabalizer shock but am wondering if it was an easy swap like the trackbar.
