Default tire size??

i have a 2000 dodge ram it has the off road package. i need new tire so i was wondering what the biggest all terrian tires i could fit under there with out them rubbing. i was also wondering if wheel spacers were a good idea or not to fit wider tires under there.

285/75 R 16 fit, So do 35" The 20" wheels from the new ram also fit under there. You didn't say what state you live in so watch the local laws. My tire can not stick out of the fender at all PA stinks. I have the 285's and they do not rub at all most importantly I still get 12MPG.

With the off road package, you can fit a 285/70R17 tire, and maybe a 305/70R17 tire with little rub on the lower control arms at full lock turn. Spacers in general are usually a bad idea. Try to avoid them.

My Off-Road wears BFG AT 315's and they DO rub at max turn. I was told spacers were a waste of time and that they'd still rub anyway, so I didn't even try them. I got a really good deal on the tires so I don't mind putting up with the rubbing once in a while.

Just curious, but why is a wheel spacer really any worse then a wheel that has the backspacing that puts your tires out more (less backspacing I believe). Both do the same thing (move your tires out further), so the stress on the hub would be the same.

I was told that it's tough (like nearly impossible) to keep the lug nuts tight when you have wheel spacers. Don't know if it's true or not but I didn't need one more thing to worry about.

I think that is if you are using the spacers that just slip over the stock lug nuts. I'm refering more to the spacers that have their own lug nuts like in this pic. These are supposed to be better since you fully tighten down the spacer with your stock lugs, then you have full amount of thread to tighten down the wheel with on the spacers lugs.

I'm not wanting these, jus always wondered why these are any any worse then offset rims.

i have a 1 inch wheel spacer because i was getting rub on my 35s and i have the say they are great I check the lugs all the time on both wheels and spacers and they are still tight. and i do a ton of rough dirt roads. the only thing i would say is alway always check the lugs at lest 2 times a year. A wheel falling off could coast you or someones life.

I had 33x12.5x17's on my 2001 off road without any rubbing before I put on any type of lift. There was never a problem with rubbing, even at full lock.
