when you turn your key to the on position you should hear a noise coming from your tank. are you the original owner of your truck? if the filter/pump hasn't been serviced in 9 yrs, its a good possibility.

you'll hear like a whining noise.. like a electric pump in your basement or something.. you'll hear it for about 2 seconds then it'll stop.. if you dont hear that.. thats its time for a new pump.. also to see if its working.. disconnect your fuel filter along the frame rail under the truck.. atleast i think these trucks have the fuel filter along the frame rail like my old truck.. but do that and have someone hold their finger over the fuel line to plug it up.. turn the key and if the gas pressure is good you shouldnt be able to hold it back.. if you have a bad pump you can hold the gas back..

That would be a negative on the fuel filter. It's integral with the fuel pump.

There is a port in the engine bay where a gauge can be connected to check the pressure. The field service manual details that. *HINT - The FSM can be downloaded from the FAQ.

no i am not the original owner of the truck, i've owned the truck for about 2 months or so...

When we turned the key to the "on" position I didn't hear anything so I assume its not working, I got a friend that works on Uhaul trucks, and a friend that is a professional Motocross mechanic... in other words, it shouldn't be a problem fixing this damn thing.. assuming it is for sure the fuel pump

No, but dropping the fuel tank is a joy *note the sarcasm

How much gas is in the tank?

Before you drop the gas tank and replace the fuel pump, check under the hood for the fuel pump relay. It's in with other fuses in a box under the hood. If it is bad or burnt out you would not hear anything from the fuel pump.

to tell you the truth it'll be easier to just lift off the bed instead of dropping the gas tank.. just undo the body mounts and the fuel filler hose.. and thats it.. get 2 or 3 people to lift it off and set it out of the way.. and you'll see the fuel pump right there on top
