how to get a cd player to fit
ok guys i bought some subs and an amp for my truck the other day and now its time to get a cd player so i went to crutchfield.com today and they didnt have anything on there to fill in the gap for a cd player so what did you guys do?
I replaced my big fat am/fm/cassette factory unit with a simple pioneer single cd from best buy. also bought the installation kit = faceplate adapter ($18) and the wire harness connector ($18). looks nice - very sturdy and the faceplate screws into the original factory screw holes in the dash and the wire harness connector removes any guesswork. highly recommended.
more info. my cd came with a sort of 1/2 cage that the cd unit slid in/out of. the cd was held in the cage by some catches, which are released using some metal prongs that were included. the 1/2 cage had a bunch of slanted tabs at the front. when you slide the metal cage into the faceplate adapter, and then bend the tabs 90 degrees, they lock the cage into the plate. then you slide the cd into the cage and it locks. then you slip the whole contraption into the hole in the dash, and tighten up the 2 or 3 original factory screws, and its a heck of a solid fit. no strap was needed on mine. good luck.
I got my install kit for my truck at Walmart for like 7.00$. Pretty simple, and it keeps everything looking nice if you go with an aftermarket stereo.

Which one did you get? I got a JVC in dash screen/dvd player and it is a double din. I installed it in my '01 dodge ram and I had to modify the main dash and bezel for it to fit. I didnt have a lot of time so it was kind of a hack job install. To do it right it would take a lot of fiberglass or bondo work on the bezel to get it too all look smooth and good. I plan on relocating the CD player to my custom console where the cup holders used to be.

Dude, I just got my whole set up from Crutchfield a couple of months ago. One thing about Crutchfield is that they send you the brackets, wiring harnesses and all hardware free of charge. I didn't have to go get anything extra when I got my stereo from Crutchfield. I had a factory stereo w/ cassette. I went with the Alpine head and it came with the bracket to install. It looks great, and I couldn't be happier. Also picked up speakers all the way around. Crutchfield can't be beat since they give you the brackets and wiring harnesses for free.
