Well I think I stirred the pot. It's nice to be the new guy. I did run a search but still could not find the answer that Silver posted. Thanks! I need to pick up my 2001, 2500 from the dealer friday and want to be ahead of the game. Knowing that 10 qts of oil has been burnt in my engine, I'll have them check out the emission control devices.

Thanks for the help. This is a great site!

hey steve... i recently did my plenum. everything went smooth but when i put the rear and front gaskets in, i think that i forgot to put the rtv sealant at the corners. will that be much of a problem? I havent seen any oil leaking yet
you may get some seapage (sp?) from the ends but I dont think it'll be a problem. they only way to know for sure is to keep track of it and see what shows. did you check the rear?

you didnt stir up the pot IMO, I get tired of hearing complaints about newbie posts on this and that... if they dont like a newbie post, dont open it. basiclly if your new and you have a question, ask it. you can search all you like, you may find what your looking for and maybe not. personally, I think if you post your question it stirs up info that may be lost in an old post.

anyways... welcome to DF lol.

I'm glad to help and I wasn't trying to bitch at you for not using the search function. I understand it can be pretty tricky sometimes and if you don't have the particular wording correctly, it may not show you what you want to see. You didn't mention that you had searched so I assumed you hadn't. Anyways if you look at the Dodge Ram FAQ sticky at the top it will have alot of answers to common questions here. Sorry to make your first experience a bad one and please don't hold it against anyone here. Welcome to the forum.

i havent found any oil from around the manifold. it does look like i might be losing a little oil from the outside of my passenger side valve cover. i found a little bit on my bellhousing too.

Sounds like the valve cover is loose or the seal is broken.

I picked up my 99 Ram 1500 a few months ago and have just discovered I have a leaky plenum gasket. I know I can get the Aluminum Billet Plenum Plate from APS and a Felpro gasket to resolve the problem, but since I don't know how long this problem has existed (being the new owner of a used truck), I was wondering what type of long term engine damage might have occurred if the previous owner ran the truck in this condition for say, the last three years?

I know the cat and O2 sensor may be caked with oil, and I can handle that, but the thought of long term engine ping/rattle makes me a little uneasy. Would a compression check on each of the eight cylinders reveal the damage that has been induced if there was any? or does the engine need to be looked at more closely?
