Not much in performance but the engine ran smoother, and by fixing the tire size, my milage went up about 1mpg.

"You could have actually had the same milage the whole time, theres some thing you do to calculate the error due to tire size and add that to what you would normally calculate to equal the total, I forget what it is"

Your right, but I left out that I also wanted the code reader function as well.

The instructions for the Hypertech give you a way to measure exactly what your tire diameter is on the truck, but I found that if you take a level, put it across the top of the tire sticking out from the wheel well, make sure the bubble is in the middle then messure from the ground up to bottom of level, it give you the same reading. The programmer only goes in 1/4" increments so just choose the one closest to your reading. I have mine right on. I had my wife follow me in her new car and we had the same speed reading at 55, 65, and 70.

I can see why the mopar PCM was a better choice for you silver with all those mods. I think I might get the hypertech if I see it on ebay cheap, like < $150. If its no good I could always re sell it.

More info from email from hypertech:

Me:
I'm curious as to why this programmer is only recommended for pretty much stock vehicles. I know a couple of people from www.dodgeforum.com who have done mods and use this and have reported both good and bad results. What exactly will cause the engine to ping if I have a K&N CAI and a Fastman 50 or 52mm TB (future)? Its only added air, how come that will affect this?
Hypertech:
Additional air coming into the engine creates a lean condition. We have not tuned for the additional air. The engine will ping/detonate with the air intake, especially if larger throttle body is used. Thanks
I don't know, even after reading this stuff I still think I would like to try it if I could get it cheap used. What exactly are the settings it has to increase performance? I know it has like tire size and top speed limiter but what specific thing actually gives performance gains? (And the tire size setting won't work on my truck).

Hypertech will never tell you exactly what it is doing to increase performance. That is their proprietary secret. If they told you that, you could create your own programmer with the same or better performance, and compete against them. I suspect all it does is advance the timing a few degrees. Their comment about running lean indicates to me that they do not mess with the air/fuel curves at all, so no additional fuel gets added beyond what the stock PCM tables are able to add. This would make sense why it is only recommended on stock vehicles.

Oh no I don't mean that, I mean what options on the programmer, because rev limiter and top speed limiter aren't going to give you performance gains, but which ones will? I've watched their video of installation but none seem that important.

Only there Performance Tuning setting gives you actual performance gains. That's the one where you select the octane you want to run. I agree, everyhting else is just nice-to-have type of stuff, but doesn't help from a performance standpoint. I liked being able to adjust my tire size, and I like being able to read codes. All the other non performance stuff was pretty useless I thought.

ooh I see now, the actual stuff that gives performance is built into the setting where you choose the fuel. Makes sense now. All that money just to press the down arrow and Y key [8D]
