Default Something Interesting about PTO/Torque Managment

I was looking in the 3rd Gen section and a member there said he found in his owners manual that there is a wire coming from the PCM that tells the computer there is a PTO in use. He said he could feel a difference in the way the truck drove after he hooked the wire up to a 12v source, as stated in his owners manual. The manual is quoted as saying that 12v's to this wire will "disable certian OBDII functions", I am wondering could this be the torque managment. It would make sense, because you would want as much un-restricted power as possible to run a PTO. If you read his post, mine is bassically the same up to this point but today I was looking through the downloadable manual and I found that our trucks have something similar to this. Now without looking at a wiring diagram I'm not sure where this wire is but I will find it. What I am thinking here is if you could wire a switch in, put it in the cab and be able to flip it on whenever wouldn't that be awesome? So does anyone have any idea what this actually does, I would like to know before I go hooking things up.

I don't think I would take it that far lol. With the switch though I would be able to see if there really is a difference. Since I posted this thread I have been reading more about it and I guess the torque managment is there to help us keep from burning up our transmissions. Apparently it cuts the throttle out in between shifts to keep the load off of the transmission so its not getting slammed into the next gear at WOT. I still don't know as much as I would like to about all this and until I learn a little more I'm leary to try this.

I think you need to find the TMR wire... torque management request.

Do you think this is a bad idea? I know it was there for a reason, so thats why I wanted to be able to switch it on and off.

no, i'm considering looking for it on my ram... not sure if the CTD's have it or not but with the push of a button, I get increments of 60 ft lbs of tq.

I'm pretty sure the CTD's have it, from what I have read they are actually the reason it is around. The guy that posted it in the third gen section said it was a violet wire that was heat shrinked on the end coming out of the PCM. I have no idea whether that is true on the CTD or not because I think his was a gasser.

Well I dont know then, I found the PTO information in the 2001 manual, there are 2 very brief paragraphs aboout it and thats all, it doesn't explain anything really. I would think there would be a PTO provision for your truck. Is that what you mean by TMR?
