Well I'm into the plenum/timing chain project (and, yeah, I'm gonna try the 180 stat), and it's gonna take a way long time cause I got bit by a wheelbug in the small of my back and damn it hurts especially when I gotta bend over but while working I got to thinking about my tire/gear relationship and was wondering if there's a way to find out if the previous owner (unknown) re-geared this thing from the stock 3:55?

You could take the diff cover off and count the teeth. Also, I think you can turn the rear tires and count the rotations of the driveshaft.

Sear this forum for "build sheet" you'll find a link to a DC Site and when you put your VIN in they'll email you every option your truck came with. Inclusing thigns like gear ratio. Its really nice to have

I have my build thanks, says 3:55, but my question is if the previous owner had re-geared with a different ratio, and the previous owner cannot be contacted, what would be the easiest way to find out. The wheel/driveshaft sounds doable but what would be the count?

The only accurate way to do it is as posted above, take the cover off and count the teeth on the ring and devide by the number of teeth on the pinion. Its really hard and almost imposible to get a accurate number by spinning the tire and seeing how many times the driveshaft goes around.
