first off kill the caps... really annoying... feel like you're screaming at us. and nobody like that.

second off get rid of the jet chip. doesn't work as well as you think it does. i don't have one but it's what i've heard and has kept me from getting one.

third if you do mods like nitrous, super, or turbo, then you should be running 92+ octane, other mods like exaust, intake, (and some heads) you can run the 87+ octane's.

it would help if you'd add a list of your mods then people know exactly what you're running so they can better help you. cause that's what we're here for. to help each other.

You shouldn't need to run higher octane fuel unless your engine is pinging. I run 87 with a few basic bolt on's listed below.

AS FOR THE CAPS OUR PC SYSTEM HERE AT WORK IS LOCKED IN ON CAPS THERE IS NO WAY I CAN GET RID OF IT. TRUST ME I KNOW HOW IT FEELS TO READ IT LIKE THAT.

BELIVE IT OR NO THE CHIP DID DO ALOT ON THE LOW END AND IT DID A GREAT JOB SMOOTHING THE TRUCK OUT ON IDLE. BUT I CAN SAY ITS NOT WORTH 200+THEY SELL IT FOR. IT WAS ALMOST FREE FOR ME SO I GOT IT AND HEY I THINK IT DOING ABOUT 45% OF WHAT THEY SAY IT DOES.

WHAT I STILL WONT TO DO IS RUN TRUE DULES HEADERS ON BACK. MAYBE A NEW GEAR IN THE REAR END IN SOME TIME AND A LARGER THROTTLE BODY.
IF THERE IS ANY OTHER SMALL THING YOU KNOW OF THAT CAN GET A LITTLE MORE OUT OF THE TRUCK LET ME KNOW . AND AGAIN SORRY FOR THE CAPS BUT THAT THE ONLY WAY I CAN TYPE HERE.

understand on the caps thing. work computers suck...

www.thefastman.com does some good things with throttle bodies for a good deal and if you mention the forum you get it even cheaper i think. that's going to be one of the first things i do once i get done paying bills for school... not going to happen anytime soon i fear.

a new air filter always helps... for awhile.

gears and the stuff metioned earlier will help the most. remember it's a heat engine.. more air in more air out.. more power out.

There are lots of things that can give you more power, check out this site:

http://www.v8performance.com/tipsandtricks.htm

As far as the chip, enjoy it while it lasts. The computer will eventually re-learn it and you won't feel a thing.

The other mods you mentioned are good ones. Sounds like you are on the right track.

Just to throw us back on track.

Back to basics. Higher octane is needed when you are in danger of detonation. Major causes include, high compression ratio's, artificial attmosphere ( boost) and radical timming advance. Sure there are more but lets just work with those.

Most bolt on parts just make the motor more efficient. They make the air enter the motor easier, and let the exhaust out more efficiently. When you get a chip, they usualy adjust the fuel map and crank the timming. Hence why a mopar PCM recomends 92. Also, you don't always need 92 unless you are really pushing the motor, but its a nice safety net.

In short, that FIPK and the set of shorty headers won't do it.

Supercharger, New cam with PCM flash, yeah.. might be time to go premium

that's all for now

Bleckers, true to a point. However some users on here report having to use mid-grade or premium to keep their stock motor from pinging. Like you said mods like exhaust and intake shouldn't increase the pinging. It's all about how his motor reacts to the type of fuel he uses, with our trucks it seems like everyones is a little different.
