starter ??
what are the symtoms of a starter going? my truck some days starts up great but others when i go to turn it over its doesnt.. after a few seconds of playing wiht it turning it on and off it will finally start.. and is there anyway of finding out if it is a starter or not.. alos is what i am decribing something else thanks i tried to explain as best i can.. if you need more info just asks. THANKS a ton in advance
When it doesn't start, do you hear a "click" sound?
If you do, its the starter solenoid going out, and you better replace that starter before it completly dies out on you.
Mine did the same thing (sometimes it would start first try, other times it would take a few tries) and it only gets worse.

I had the same kind of trouble with mine on a Dakota, around 215,000 miles. I found a rebuilder and just bought new contacts and brushes from him, cost me under $20, substantially less than a new starter. He told me Denso starters are pretty solid otherwise and I shouldn't have problems with it after that. The contacts that came out were almost worn through, I was surprised it worked as well as it did. Also when you're down by the starter, clean the end of the cable so you don't have problem with voltage drop.
i had the same in my truck last year. replaced the starter. everything is good now.

okay thanks... i htink ill replace the solenoid first in hopes that will do it and if it doesnt its only a $20 mistake.. and if that isnt it ill put a new starter thanks for the input.. it helped alot
ya mine went about a year ago same symptoms, they're a pain when they don't work properly. You can try apply the brake and shifting into D and then P then trying to start again, aligns the starter with the flywheel gears.
kk thanks.. are they hard to change? i stillthink i am going to try the solinoid first cuz i am not at htis point full of money i am only 17... and is the solenoid by the starter?? and were exactly is the starter?
