Default Transmission problem?

I was looking under my pickup changing the O2 sensor in front of the CAT the other day. When I got under there I could see some fluid had accumulated on the oil pan. It looked like Tranny fluid leaking from the seal where the transmission meets the engine. I am not low on fluid at all and it seems like a small leak.

My other concern is that recenly on a long drive a few weeks ago while driving I would feel a short abrupt surge. Now when I am idling sometimes it surges a bit. Once it surged as much to make me look in the rearview to see if someone hit me in the ***. It does not do it very often, but it does do it on occasion. What do you guys think is going on here?

I was able to find this in the FAQ, however I am too stupid to know exactly what I need to do to fix this problem. All help is appreciated!!

surging in overdrive at hiway speeds: (Racinfan83)
tps is noisy and needs to be replaced. the signal a noisy tps sends back to the pcm tells it that the throttle is open farther than it really is and the pcm unlocks the torque converter. the surging is about 200 rpms as the TC locks and un-locks.

If you suspect it is the TPS, you purchase a new TPS, remove the old one (which is located on the driver's side of the throttle body), install the new one, and call it good. Also note that the TPS is held in place with Torx screws. It's really that simple.

Sorry for asking this but what does TPS stand for? Also how do I know if it is the TPS is there anyway I can know that this is my issue? I just found that statement about the TPS in the FAQ and it seemed like it sort of related but I am pretty green to working on my own pickup and have no clue. Thanks for the help.

There's a good chance it could be your front pump seal. I'd check it out.

Actually the fluid is accumulating on the transmission pan not the oil pan, and it looks like oil. When you say the front pump seal what is that and where is it.

Can you see any tranny fluid accumulating around the bottom of dust cover (lower cover right where tranny attaches to motor) also take a look at your tranny lines, make sure they arent leaking toward the front and blowing back.

If your replacing the cover seal go the extra mile and service filter/bands and replace the pan gasket with the factory hard seal from a dealer.
