Default New 5.9 running few questions

Got the new 5.9 magnum running in my buddies 95 ram. I cut 1.5" off the intake runners, cut the center divider out and made an egr pipe inside, ported the heads and put a crane cam in it. Part number is 704121 I believe, and it's supposed to be a copy of the r/t cam I think. It doesn't have an ounce of power, if I floor it, it'll rev to 5,000 rpm but it's just guttless, and it it real jerky and studdery from right off idle to 1700 rpm or so then it smooths out. If I cruise at 30mph and 1500 rpm it runs o.k. and doesn't buck or anything, but if I let it go into overdrive and try to drive at 70mph its at 1700rpm and it jerks like if you were on a really bumpy road, but the tach doesn't bounce around, if I put it in 3rd and turn 2200rpm it seems fine, just not much power. Starts right up though. I think the timing could be the cause of this as there's no way to set it with a light so it's just a crapshoot. I have a mopar performance computer for it, but want to see if I can find the problem first. Seems to have plenty of fuel pressure. Cat was replaced 40,000 miles ago and it has dual exhaust after that. Any idea's guys, i'm gonna tinker with it sat. and want to know where to look. There is no check engine light, it hasn't come on once. Also it has about 25psi oil pressure hot at idle and about 35-40 crusing depending on rpm. Even cold it only goes to 40. Seem normal? I have a melling hv pump in it and was thinking it would have round 60 psi? Bearing clearances are .003 on cam, and .0015-.002 on rod and mains. Checked with micrometers and dial bore gauges. So what do you guys think, seem normal on the pressure or should it have more?[&:]

The injectors are out of sync wth the cam. Need to hook up a scan tool to it. If you use a Snap On scan tool, find the menu listing "set sync signal" Fire it up, take the rpms to 1000 and hold it there to reduce valve train slop. Signal will bounce around by about .1 if the timing chain is new. Old chain will bounce more. Should be set at 0-1degree advanced when the distributor is set correctly. If its negative just unlock the 1/2 hold down bolt and turn it counter clock wise how ever many degrees its retarded, snug down the bolt and recheck. Should smooth things out if the cam it timed up correctly.

I work at a shop and am the guy that runs the snap on scan tool. We have a solus and I know what your talking about, i just hadn't had time to borrow our scan tool and play around with it. Now that I know I need to do it I will get it this weekend and get it done. Thanks for your help. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Wow, this sounds like the problem I am having with my rebuilt engine, only I didn't replace the cam. I had the injectors cleaned and encounter an occasional popping sound. If I switch out of overdrive the jerking gets worse, but the RPMs stay consistent.

Hey RM, I was under the impression that moving the dist had no affect on the motor for ignition timing... your saying that it does for the injector timing? (this would be good if it's true... havent learned anything new yet today... or all week for that matter lol)

I got the scan tool on it and set the cam sync, at 0, it bounces between 0 and then ff and then back to 0 I don't know what ff means? I drove it and same thing, shudders trying to take off and when in overdrive. If i try to load it hard in like 3rd it starts to pop out of the exhaust and is overall gutless. It's making me pretty mad. Anyone help me out? I have the scan tool for the weekend, but that's pretty much it. It never kicks a code or turns cel on. Also it idles about 20-25 psi oil pressure hot and 35-40 full pressure with about 35 at 2,500rpm. Sound normal? It seems low to me? Anyone?

Igntion timing is not affected by distributor position but the injectors are. The cam sensor ring (flat black platic piece) inside the distributor gives the pcm the signal for cam timing so it knows the proper timing to fire the injectors in relation to valve opening and spark plug firing

Stang, see you already found your wires crossed by your other thread you started so I wont tell you to recheck the wires lol. So easy to get 2 crossed.

Hey ya thanks for the help. He drove it 100 miles last night after I got it back together, no leaks, no misses and the gas gauge is still at 3/4 so he got his mileage back to. Pretty happy about it right now.
