Here's a picture of mine. Looks like I had to zip-tie mine up also. Very tight fit. Install the filter and base together, thread the S-bolt in, then slide the lid on. It drags the wiring harness and bolt until it drops into place over the filter. There should be clearance after you're done.
Nice port job on the TB. Did you do that yourself?

Ok I will take a look at it again and see where I can zip tie things.

Nah would be pretty cool if I did do it myself, but its the fastman TB

Ok well nevermind about the wiring harness, the filter is too big for my truck. I got the base and filter on but it was snug up against it, no way the top would be able to fit on. I'm gunna have to get a smaller filter.

i did the exact one thatsilver did and i am running the paper filter that came with it. no increase of MPG.! it does make a annoying whistling noise of air. it was really annoying untill i swithched to 3923's by autolite and some of it went away. i hear it more when she's cold in the morning then fades a little bit when she warms up. any ideas whats happening? the plugs deffinately seemed to have helped. my mpg is 11.69 - 11.79 everytime, highway,75 mph, not as good as others but super consistent. any ideas.

oh yeah like i said before this mod was awesome for power

Make sure you have the rubber gasket between it and the TB. Any filter that is this close to the firewall is going to be noisier then the stock setup. Mine is also louder in the morning until the TB opens up after warm-up mode. It doesn't whislte though.

Silver, you have a flat base right? What is the height of your new K&N, I don't think you mentioned it, I know you said the possible heights but don't think you said the one you have now. I have to go with a smaller filter, I don't know why this 3" won't fit in my truck.

For everyone, are the bottom parts of your base curved in? Mine is like an L shape around the bottom, the part that sits on top of the gasket on top of the TB, doesn't seem like it makes a good seal.

I think almost 12 mpg at 75 mph isn't too bad, especially with the 4.10 gears in your Off-Road.

I used to commute over a 100 miles a day (all Interstate highway) and noticed a big drop in fuel mileage (1.5 - 2 mpg) atany speed over 70 mph.

Here are some pictures of my AC maybe its not a flat base after all, I'm not sure. Just seems weird that when I had the base and filter on the TB, the top of the filter was snug against the truck, not even the wiring harness. Might just go for the 1480 Mr. Gasket with a 2.5" filter.
