If it has the flat base, have fun getting the 3" filter in there. It will fit, I did it, but she's tight until it drops down over the TB.
Actually I tried something different and bought one w/ a 1.5" drop base to try to gain more clearance, but it does not fit! It is too much drop and the bottom of the pan hits the throttle linkage and a mounting bolt on top of the plenum. [:@]

So now I'm going to buy a 1" aircleaner riser and everything should fit into place w/ about a .5" more clearance than the one you have.

Just a couple questions though:

- Where did you guys run the PCV hose?
- Did you guys have an issues with the main wiring harness going from the fuse block to PCM getting inthe way of the air cleaner?

What is wrong with your PCV hose? Replacing the air hat shouldn't touch it. You will need to replace the other breather that comes off the driver side with a stand-alone breather.

My main wiring harness does sit pretty close to the top of the lid of my air hat, but I used zip ties to tie it up as snug as I could get it, and that seems to work fine with my setup. With a 3" tall filter though, you might still have issues with it being in the way.

OK, I am wrong, it is not the PCV but I have some sort of breather located towards the back of the passenger side valve cover it has a tube that connects to the top half of the stock air hat.

Hmm, on my passenger side, I have a PCV, but it connects directly to the intake. The one that connects to the stock air hat as you described was on my driver side valve cover.

It could be that somebody worked on the truck and switched the PVC hose and breather hose when they put it back together. You should have a nipple on the TB on the passenger side that the PCV goes into. You could switch the PCV to the passenger side and run a breather on the driver's side like Silver noted.

Yep, that describes mine too. The PCV hose runs into the intake on the drivers side.

There is a "knock out" on the bottom plate of the air cleaner, so I'm just going to use a brass fitting and connect the breather hose to it.

This may sound stupid, but why would this decrease MPG? Unless you were using the new found power and accelerating harder. But normally, better breathing = better effciency, and that means more MPG unless you goose it around.

Because more air takes more fuel to keep the air/fuel ratio correct. But I agree with what you said, if you keep your foot out of it, mpg should stay at least the same.
